Mic comes in the box. You'll need an adaptor to use third party headsets.

For me the only must have accessory is a play and charge kit (or four long lasting rechargeable batteries and a battery charger).

An external HDD isn't necessary right now. I have about 10 games on my HDD along with some DLC and demos and it still isn't full.

I wouldn't rush out and buy a tablet just for SmartGlass. You can use SmartGlass on most SmartPhones.

Kinect is convenient for some stuff but personally I find myself hardly using it now. I just pin what I want to the dashboard.

The control pads are garbage durability wise (I'm on my fifth). You'll likely end up getting replacements or buying another. Don't bother buying a second unless you absolutely need to.

Don't forget your Xbox Live Gold subscription.

+1 on the play and charge kit. The battery to that thing seems to last forever. lol

Media remote works good for the most part, but you need a straight line of site, which stinks at times.

^^A straight line of site, really? That sucks. If thats the case smartglass works better as you can be in a different room and control the console.

What are the Xbox One essentials?

    1. Headset adapter (x2 if you buy a second controller)

    2. second controller (titanfall one is better build quality imo)

    3. play and charge kit (maybe x2 if you have the second controller)

    4. External SSHD if you plan on buying lots of games - not needed right away.

I have everything you can get for the Xbox One right now. I would go

    1. Play and Charge. The battery life is no joke.

    2. A good surround sound headset and chat adapter. XO 7's are nice

    3. Kinect makes things navigation and in game recording far more convenient

    4. External Storage you will need it later.

    5. As far as a game, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition. I'm sure you know they are great.

  6. Thanks everyone! I'm sorry for my not knowing there's a headset that comes with the Xbox. I thought that was separate for some reason lol. I think I will definitely get the play and charge cause I don't want to go through a lot of batteries. I'll be getting
the X1 with Kinect because I see a lot of people saying Kinect is pretty convenient and I like that. I also wanna tell my Xbox to rage quit this game and whatnot. I'm not sure on TF. Maybe I'll get the bundle if they don't have another decent bundle by next
month. DR3 was actually our top choice since it has co-op. TRWhat are the Xbox One essentials? :DE? Oh yeah. I might replay that game What are the Xbox One essentials? :p

  8. What are the Xbox One essentials?

#1 Some decent reliable AA batteries and charger, sanyo enelooop NiMH 2500mAh is what I use, or a play and charge from Energizer. I don't know about the official MS play and charge for the One, but the ones they made for the 360 often had some off brand
AA rechargeable cells in them that were pretty bad.

#2 Headset adapter and a stereo headset from MS, Turtle Beach, or Polk if don't already have a 360 compatible headset. Just have to plug them into the controller and you get game audio and chat audio. Can also plug in any stereo earbuds or headphones into
the chat adapter for nearly wireless audio.

#3 Dead Rising 3 is easily the funnest Co-op game on the One right now. All the extra untold story DLC stuff doesn't let you do Co-op though.

Kinect is definitely nice to have but if you're buying two consoles maybe just get it for one and see if you like it. Can also use it as a mic, but it's still not as good as the included headset.

Don't get a Turtle Beach headset like people are recommending. They are absolute garbage. The best place to go for that kind of into is either head-fi or AVS.

  10. play and charge kit is essential for me. if not that, then rechargeable batteries. I mean why spend 5$ on 4 (good) batteries? a play and charge kit should last at the very least a couple years and only costs 30$

@Defy Lightning I'm not 100% sure (maybe about 97% sure lol) That Dead Rising 3 doesn't have couch co-op. Just want to clear that up if you didn't know already. I don't want you hyping your girlfriend up for some kickass zombie slaying only to find out one
of you has to watch the other. Unless I missed it and you are buying two Xbox Ones... In which case I'd forgo buying a second controller.

What are the Xbox One essentials?

External hard drive seems to be a must, just wondering if anybody has some good advice on which one is best? I've only got 7 games and down to just 90 GB of space left already so will be needing one soon. Seagate seems to get mentioned a lot, I've searched
on Amazon and there are so many different types and I'm not too tech savvy and don't want to buy the wrong one. I reckon 2 TB will probably do me for the time being, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated thanks!

  14. This is what I have for my X1; I've had mine since launch.

    1.Plug and Play kit

    2. I have the Turtle Beach's Titanfall headset. I like the TB they seem to work well for me; I had them on my PS3.

    3. External hard drive. I went with a 2TB from Toshiba $119 at Walmart.

    4. I am purchasing a second controller as a back up.

As far as games go. I have COD-bored it with. Titanfall is pretty good. I'm also enjoying Ryse:Son of Rome but once I finish it I'll probably sell it. I liked Marvel Lego; it's co-op. I think you'll enjoy your new X1.

What are the Xbox One essentials?

I bought the Play & Charge kit. If you've got the extra cheddar, it is a great convenience. I don't think it is "essential", but it is helpful/nice. Outside of that, the only other thing I use that didn't come with my One is Smartglass.

What are the Xbox One essentials?

Hey Defy, it comes with a headset and I think it's a good one.

I wouldn't go the play and charge kit, I roll with a 4 pack of Energizer batteries with charging station, only costs $25 Australian so would be cheaper if your in the states. I hate the cords and found that the 360 batteries seem to have a short life span.
Use one set of batteries and switch em over while the other 2 charge.

Do yourself a solid and get he Kinect version, I hardly use it, but its an awesome addition and if your into voice commands you will love it.

Essential games? hmmmm I havent been blown away with any of the games just yet, so whatever floats your boat.

While I wouldn't put Kinect as an Accessory (which I suppose technically it is) I would agree with smiles, its a must buy IMO.
