Well I am having trouble redeeming a code for xbox live gold member card

I am currently having the same issue with my son. We redeemed the code and he shows as a gold member on his profile but gold benefits are not available and he gets messages that these services are only available to "Gold Members". The code is showing redeemed
as well.
