Weird Xbox Series X FPS Games Freeze

I mostly play Destiny 2. Was playing when suddenly game froze. Rebooted. Game start tearing on screen a bit. Followed by tearing and then game freezes.

I’ve hard rebooted Xbox. I’ve hard rebooted and unplugged power for over 5 minutes. I’ve deleted and reinstalled D2. I’ve changed HDMI cables. I’ve changed TVs. I went into console info and reset but kept games. I went into console info and did a full reset with all games deleted. I’ve tried a different power plug. Nothing has resolved it.

Rayman Legends, TMNT, Streets of Rage, Fall Guys, YouTube, twitch all appear to work fine. Split Gate Apex Legends D2 all freeze. I can actually hang out in D2 Inventory and character screens and not experience and tearing or freezing.

I’m assuming I’m buying another Xbox, warranty ran out couple months ago. But thought I’d ask here first. Any ideas would be great!

Thx Joseph I will give this a try. I don’t have any external devices. Just Xbox and two controllers. I’ll see if I can find a usb stick and give it a shot.

Do you have an external hard drive connected to the console?
If that's the case. Please disconnect it (and disconnect all the USB devices) and try opening games installed only in your console (or re-download destiny 2 there)

If the issue persists I can advise you one more thing:
In case you didn't try it, could be nice perform an offline update for your console. In that way Xbox system will be installed from scratch.

Unfortunately it didn’t fix the issue. It’s like the video card fills up with memory and then crashes. It’s weird.

Speaking to MS the repair is almost the same price as a new one. So guess I’m buying a new one. Seems bananas to throw out a 14 month old machine.

Thanks for the great advice. The update trouble shooter screen works great. The offline update works flawless

Give that a shot, if maybe the issue persists. It seems that as you said. The next step will be request a repair order / get your console inspected!
