    Weird Blu-ray/Dvd issue.


    Ever since that last little update we got I think, everytime I try to play a Blu-ray or DVD movie it brings up the CD music player app haha. Obviously it says can't be read and what not.

    But the funny thing is if you go to apps and start up the bluray player manually it'll still play, kinda weird and annoying.

    Anyone else have this issue or just me?

    Yes, Xbox One can play both Blu-ray and DVD movies. No HD DVD

    Are you in the preview mate? Report it it MS. May just be a bug like the weird writing font on mine. (Stoopid font is mocking me!)

    Hi,

    Sounds like the laser in your console's Blu-ray drive has a hardware issue.

    To test if your Xbox One X has issues reading discs, try playing a DVD movie disc. If can't read DVD movie discs either then your console has a hardware fault.

    Note: It must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

    There are two lasers in the Blu-ray drive, one for reading Blu-ray discs and one for DVD discs. Xbox One games use Blu-ray and the 360 console used a DVD drive.

    DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

    No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
    Blu Ray players.

    multi-format drives designed to read both (I have two).



    Beyond the physical inability to read an HD DVD in a Blu-ray drive, there's the issue of software. HDi Interactive Format was the standard used to create HD DVD menus and other content on-disc outside of the actual movie files. Blu-ray uses scripts and Java.
    Unless playback software can understand HDi Interactive Format, HD DVD menus won't work and the disc won't play.



    If it was possible for Blu-ray players to play HD DVD, people wouldn't be holding onto HD DVD drives.
