  1. Web filtering on Xbox

    Hi,

We've recently bought an Xbox One S for our son. For various reasons we want to restrict his access to the internet very tightly but have come across a few issues which hopefully someone can shed some light on:

    Passkey

Is it correct that he should be able to delete his own passkey and then set a new one to something else? Is there any way this can be prevented so he doesn't always know the passkey?

    Web Filtering - Restrict Sites

I have tried restricting the sites he can get to by setting the "Only allow these websites" parameter and either not adding any sites to the Allowed list or just a single site but in either case he can still get to the various search engines and access
sites that way - I would have thought that this setting would just block all sites?

As an alternative I have blocked a number of sites - including the major search engines. This appears to work for those sites but obviously that's not ideal since it's only the sites I have included that are explicitly

    However.......

If a website is blocked a message is displayed saying that the content is not allowed and a button is displayed to "Request Permission". What I find very odd is that it requests his own passcode rather than a parent's. Surely this is an invalid configuration
since as described above he can reset the passcode to anything he likes so he can just request permission from himself. Is it possible to configure this to request the parent's code to gain access?

Obviously, I can just remove the Xbox from the wireless network but that will restrict updates to games and the system, so I'd rather avoid that and use the tools provided.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Thank you.

    :)

    Web filtering on Xbox

    Hey there CrushedPuppet81.

The passkey can be reset if he knows his account's password. If you don't want him to be able to reset his passkey, we recommend selecting a password for him. As of now, your work around for web filtering is going to be your best option, as it doesn't prevent
you from typing the parameters into a search engine. Once your son attempts to visit those websites he shouldn't be able to access without the pass key.

I don't think there is a filter for ads. Just for content and web filtering. I haven't noticed any such filters beside those 2.

    Web Filtering Not Blocking Anything

    Hi Beds of Ivory,

Thank you for coming to the forums. I'd be happy to help!

First, is this to prevent a child from accessing inappropriate websites or to stop inappropriate ads from opening when on unprotected websites?

I recommend some basic troubleshooting on the console to start with. Go ahead and turn off web filtering and then do a

    hard reset and power cycle
. Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down and then remove the power cable from the Xbox and the power outlet for about 2-3 minutes. Then re-connect and
    turn on the Xbox.

Turn web filtering to Basic communication and then quit the Settings app.

    parental controls web filtering

There is a garing loop-hole you should be aware of:

It doesn't matter how secure you make any and all accounts on your xbox one: all you have to do [when you go to log-in] is select Add account, go through the steps, lie abut your age, set your own restrictions [select unrestricted on everything] and now
you have access to everything. period.

there is no setting to restrict access to this, so anyone can do it, at any time [and then delete it after to hide that it was done]. There are no "Admin" or "Global" restriction settings available to prevent this.
