I am having the same problem. We need to add our child account to ours. My sons XBOX Gold ran out. I am trying to renew the membership. Keep trying to do so on his account, but it keeps on saying "pending".

His account isn't on mine when I sign in at all.

HOW DO WE ADD AN EXISTING CHILD ACCOUNT?

We think it's a Family Account.

When we try to add the game pass we're getting message 'your child needs to sign in to their windows 10 device DESKTOP - XXXXXX0 for family features to work.'

He's logged in to our laptop but we are still getting this message. Any ideas?

My request for a refund is within policy. My child is on a child account. He made an authorized purchase for the wrong game/version. He then purchased the correct version. We requested a refund and Xbox have refunded the version he wishes to keep. The reason for now being a detractor and thinking of moving to a different platform is that the after sales service is terrible. I landed on this thread trying to find out how to get in touch with a person/complain.

Unfortunately game save data can't be moved between accounts.

B) can i set screen time limits to my own (parent) account

Unfortunately no as well.

How can i get him back on his child account without him losing all his progress?

He will have to start over on his child account, where you can
set limits for screen time. I also suggest changing your password if he knows it, and possibly

setting a passkey on your account so that he can't log in on it to get around screen times.
