Personally, I don't see anything that has an IF statement as being truly free. To me, getting that free order of fries is not free, as you have to spend money to get the deal. But to each his own

 

There will be an IF in front of everything that is free literally everything. That doesn't make something not free.

 

On July 11th, 7-11 gives away free slurpees. I guess the IF there is IF you go into the store, you get one... But that IF doesn't require any money to be spent.

Anyway it's all up to interpretation, neither is wrong here

The IF doesn't devalue the thing that is free. You can't arbitrarily apply a cost to something that is free based on the randomness of your thought processes...

A car has running costs that aren't applicable to the actual purchase. Your buy one, get one free pair of shoes do not require you to keep making further payments as to keep wearing the free pair of shoes. GwG requires you to keep paying a fee to access
those games. If the games were free, I could access them at any time regardless of whether a paywall was in place or not. 360 games are free FREE, Xbone games aren't.

The program is called Games WITH Gold.

The games in this program are free. You are not paying for them. If you want to talk about ownership issues tied to the service, and why you can't access things you own when not subscribed to Gold... on the new generation of consoles, do that. Check the
ToC you accepted.

But at no point have you paid any money toward the games offered with GWG.

 

Why would I check the ToC, I'm not disputing what the service offers? Nor have i even insinuated anything of the sort. I have no qualms whatsoever about the service itself, so no idea why you'd think I'd feel aggrieved enough that i would need to check
the ToS/ToC.

By your logic, online gaming on LIVE is free too, everything attached to LIVE is free. Nope, that's all attached to the initial sub fee, just like GwG is.

 

The ToS for X1 will likely explain that you can't access GWG games without a subscription. You own them though, and you didn't pay for any of them. Your issue is with ownership/access on X1, not with what you're getting free, or what you've paid for - or
what you think you're paying for with a Gold sub.

And no, online gaming is part of the subscription fee. You can't buy server access from the online store at a RRP of 49.99. There's no party package and multiplayer features going for 39.99. The games you're getting...

Ridiculous analogies aside (yeah, I started those), a fairer analogy would be something like Netflix. We don't claim those movies and tv series are free, because we have to pay a sub/fee to access them and to keep watching them. Just like we do with GwG
on the X1.

Anyway, I'm dropping this as I'm never going to agree and it's a wasted exercise on both sides.

If Netflix started offering films for download that you could store on your device and keep forever... Then that'd be GWG. Those individual movies have value beyond the licensing fee Netflix pays to stream them, and beyond the sub fee you pay to have things
streamed. They'd be free films to own. Not rented films available for a limited time.

Right now Netflix is Xbox Gold without GWG, the Gold of yesteryear... without the extra service offering things with [pretty steep] value, to own, for free. For keeps. Forever tied to your account.

He goes to download it and it costs $X.

He says I thought this was supposed to be free?

I said, Well you have to have a Gold membership.

He said, but that is $60.

I said, But once you download them they are yours to keep.

And he said again, But I have to first pay for the Gold membership first, which is $60.

That is why the programme is called games with gold.

The idea being you already had gold to begin with, so the game is free.

You pay for the gold time, complaining about the free part is pathetic however you look at it.

But I want free drinks.

So pay the entrance fee. The drinks are free... getting in the club isn't. These are two completely separate things.
