I do hear a lot of people complaining and it kills me because they are getting something free and then saying that isnt good enough. It wasnt that long ago that we paid for Gold and got nothing but a few F2P titles and internet access through our consoles.
That was it. Now, MS sweetens the pot a little and people act like it isnt enough. To me, THAT is the main problem with the GwG program. I only complain when my free title doesnt work at all (SSX). It doesnt even really bother me if I already have the game
because then multiplayer usually heats up for a bit. GWG has exposed me to titles that I would not have considered playing, in some cases, but really enjoyed. I have had this concern that many people are going to stop buying games and expect MS to give them
AAA titles every month, for free. Its not so much on 360 as it is on XB1. People were expecting Ryse and Dead Rising 3 2 months after XB1 launched. To those people I say this, if you want it, go and BUY IT! If you cant afford it, why do you have XB1 in the
first place?

@EightBall -- People, especially on these forums, are going to whine anyways. Regardless of what is offered/given to them. MS doesn't owe you anything other than the service(s) you pay for. Any free games/items is just an added bonus.

 

If we vote on games. It be nothing but COD every month.

Aww, those games. I thought i was missing something. They're not free, though? I thought the way some people are going on (those people that like to throw around the internet buzzword of the year "entitled" as some sort of insult), we were now actually
getting free *FREE* games. Games we can keep and access for the duration of the consoles lifespan without having to renew our subs a la xbox 360 free games.

Some people really need to look up the definition of the word "free" before basing their entire insult laden argument around it.

 

I'm not paying any more for my subscription than I was before GWG. The games have been added to the service at
no extra cost or payment, that is the definition of free... ergo the games are free.

Also people are misunderstanding the OP. The games wouldn't all be CoD games given a vote, because the games we would be voting on would be pre-selected, and CoD wouldn't have to feature in the process.

It could be BioWare versus Bethesda:

1. Dragon Age

2. Mass Effect

3. Skyrim

4. Fallout 3

Vote for two of those. The two with the most votes would be that month's 360 GWG t-i-t-l-e-s. [<--The censorship on this forum is absurd.] Then half the voting opportunity for the X1... vote between two games, same thing.

 

Huh? No sub, no free games. No matter which way you twist it, they're not free. Free would be something people would be able to access without having to pay for a sub and keep them after any sub ran out. Exactly like it is on the 360.

Also, MS are in direct competition with Sony, Sony who offer a similar service. It's in MS interests to keep that service going. GWG is one of the main reasons I keep my sub going. No GWG, no sub from me. MS are not doing me any favours, I'm doing them
a favour by keeping my sub active. Well, that's how it usually works in the consumerism world we now live in. I don't see how MS are exempt from that, but some people think they are. It's all a little bit baffling why people think MS or Sony for that matter
are doing us a favour by offering such services.

Your subscription price did not and has not increased in all the time the games for gold has been going.

Therefore the free games are a bonus at no extra cost to anyone that was normally buying gold anyway.

I personally have bought gold only for the "free" games.

In my first month i got 5 games, those 5 games are valued at more than my entire subscription price for the whole year.

Every game i get from now is completely free.

And to add to that i get 1000 reward credits every time i play one of those games for 10 hours, literally giving me back my entire subscription cost again in reward credits.

How any one can continue to complain about this programme is beyond me, and they really should go elsewhere for their first world problems.

 

You asked people to look up the definition of free. The definition is no cost and no payment. The games are free. You're not being charged for the games. The GWG program could go away tomorrow and your sub fees wouldn't go down. Just as they didn't go up
when "free games" started being offered. The sub fees didn't go up - drilling this point home now - because the games are FREE!

Also, competition with Sony isn't the sole reason the X1 GWG program differs from the 360. Microsoft'll soon be competing with their own platforms through Windows, and there has to be further incentive to subscribe to Gold, and adopt more devices using the
Live service - to get the most out of all platforms. FREE games is one of them.

You said yourself GWG is a big reason you subscribe at all, good for you, and for as long as you sub you'll have free games for your X1. lol you pay for the service, and you get the benefits... one of the benefits added only last year, at no extra cost to
you, is FREE games.

 

Doesn't matter if the sub fee never increased. The only way to access them is by paying a fee. Regardless of what you do on the service itself, those games are confined (exact opposite of free) behind a paywall. It's like saying being able to access
this site from home is free, it's not. We all pay our IP provider for that privilege regardless of what else we use it for.

I can't believe most people whether out of pigheadedness or some other excuse can't get their head around the true definition of what free is.

The definition of free is no payment or cost... for the third time. You're getting free games... they have retail prices, and actual cost, that you aren't being asked to pay. You got them all for free.

On 360 they're yours to play whether you're subbed or not. On X1 they're accessible to subscribers... but whether you access them or not... you GOT THEM FOR NOTHING!! You didn't pay for them... they were FREE!

 

The games are free. Unbelieveble that you can't see that. How much are the games then? How much is Rayman Legends? How much is IDARB?

On my console it says €0.00.

You have to have a sub to play the games but so what. They still gave these to you at no extra cost. That's free. If you pay extra money for them then they're not free.

So when you see deals in a store like buy 2 pairs of shoes get 1 pair free. Does it mean the extra pair isn't free because you had to buy 2 pairs first? Or how bout buy 2 large fries get 1 free. Are they free if you had to buy other fries?

When I go to a football game sometimes there is a promo that you can get a free beer just for being there but I had to buy my ticket to get into the game. It still doesn't take away the fact that it was free. Just like GWG.
