When is this nonsense with the friends list getting fixed? Your "updates" on Xbox support are not very informative. "Check again in an hour.." Two hours later... "Check back in an hour.

It's a distributed denial of service attack(DDos) apparently

DDoS attacks are where they spams the server with useless network traffic bringing them down. Probably explained better on

Wikipedia.

It's not actually a hack.

As DDoS attacks are not hacks your accounts should be safe.

If in doubt change your password to one that is a random string of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols to make it difficult to guess. Obviously make sure you can remember the password.

 

yea this is honestly complete bs,7+ hours now with no friends list, i can only play so often and i cant even do that now cuz i cant link up with any of my friends. i love how it says their team is hard at work, i think hardly working is more like it

 

You do realize that it can take time to determine what the cause of the issue is, right? The status update is mainly to let you know that they are still attempting to diagnose and repair the issue, not to give technical details of what they are doing. While
it would be nice to have some more detailed information as to what's going on, I'd much rather have them spend that time working on the issue. But hey, that's just me.

 

It's been 24 hrs for a friends list/chat issue....Seems rediculous to me

 

This is a joke every day something not working or showing up on dashboard same crap but different day we are paying to play online with mates and cannot sort it out and stop ripping us off

 

They wont fix cause as soon as they sort it out it will happen again this is not the first time this as happened and wont be the last

 

xbox one is getting worse for problems 1 after another when are we goner get problem free we pay for it every year and we get countless update that just make it worse how about giving people a free game and then things might get fixed more quicker if they
promise a free game if down for more than 12 hours

 

Ive had my x1 for a year almost and this is the first problem ive had. My 360's friends list is fine does anyone have the link to the official xbox announcement on this issue

 

Day off, can't even play online with my wife. New Console (XB1) apparently isn't powerful enough to splitscreen and even after buying two xboxes we still can't play.

Irony of ironies, my wife gets an email from XBL saying hey! come play free this weekend, join friends and enjoy! while the we can't even party in the same game...

Would seriously appreciate some communication from microsoft besides, yah we are having problems too bummer... check back in an hour (meanwhile, next day...)

 

I wouldn't be upset if they went into more detail as to what's causing the problem. What really gets under my skin is that this is day TWO(yes I know-first world problems).

 

Yeah it would be nice to know more, made some friends on destiny last night and can't even add them because of this crap!

This is garbage. Over 24 hours and they tell us paying customers nothing at all. Microsoft is getting pretty *** pathetic.
