The only time I buy digital is when they have a sale on, the game is cheaper than the disk version and the download size is reasonably small. Otherwise I just stick to disks.

I pretty much refuse to buy "smoke" that actually doesn't exist. The only digital I buy is some DLC if it isn't on disc at all.

I've only bought digital this generation. Well, aside from the Mario Kart 8 disc I have.

When I buy the games, they are either at release date or when they have a Gold Sub Sale going on. So, the price (in USD) at release is almost always $59.99, same as physical copy in store. When I bought Plants vs. Zombies, it was on sale for $19.99. I
didn't check the physical price for it, but I would assume that's probably right in line or even below what I could find it in the store.

Everything that I've purchased has been the same price both in the MS store as well as hard copy. If I decide to run to wal-mart and get GTA:V it's $60, if I get it from the MS store it's $60. However looking on Amazon GTA was $44. Considering that's a person
controlling that price and not a company....that might explain the price difference. Although I'd rather go ahead and go to walmart or get mine from the MS store so I know my game is solid.

  6. I'd also like to point out that you guys are not factoring in the cost of driving to get the game. Going to Gamestop having to wait in line and driving home just tacked about 25 to 30 dollars onto my hard copy of the game. My time isn't free and when I have
to wait for something I can just click click and own well then digital copies are cheaper when you think about it.

So Microsoft is doing you a favor...Ha ha

If you're buying brand new releases then yes, the physical and the digital copies cost the same. Myself I almost always wait for the prices to drop, and when you do that, usually the disc is down to $20 while they still want $40-$60 for the digital. I don't
know who shops at Gamestop, surely not I, I get all my games online for $20 or less with free shipping.

Lets not forget that the more you go "digital download" for games. The more HDD Space you'll require. Adding extra costs to you.

X-360 with a 500 GB HDD means that at 7 GB per game you can buy roughly 70 games before looking to add a bigger HDD. Buy those same games on disc and 20 GB is all you'll ever need.

X1- 500 GB internal HDD. Games for it require upwards of 50 GB of HDD space for each game. That's not counting updates and DLC. So do the math, and you'll find that going digital on either system costs more in every respect.

Oh, and lest we forget. You can be "banned" in some cases just for accepting a game invite. Found that out after Halo 4 released and on Halowaypoint someone pointed that out in the forums. So you can lose all your DL Games in a heartbeat.

Physical possession is the ONLY sure way to continue to enjoy what YOU YOURSELF invested in for eons to come.

  9. Oh, add to that that games released for the X1 are now released with. For lack of a better word. "Half Backed." - Meaning that they require updates before you can even be able to play the campaign in some cases.

So in this generation of gaming (whether PS4 or X1) going digital, or physical means added costs in every respect.

Clever hidden tactics in the form of DRM if you ask me. - Which is even more reason for me and mine to completely skip this generation of gaming nightmares, and headaches. We all know that microsoft ;)

@Electro -- Even if you buy a physical copy, you need to download vast elements of the game onto the hard drive, so whichever you go with, you're going to fill up the hard drive rather quickly.

Also should add that through a simple Google search, players weren't perma-banned in Halo 4, they were just banned for X amount of time from matchmaking. The one guy on the Waypoint forums said he was banned for accepting a game invite, and other posters
commented that in his last 10 games, he quit out 5 of them. Oops.

  11. They fix this by giving us a lot of deals on games. I'm okay with the prices because I just buy used games anyways. That's why I love the sales that XBL has because they're really good deals most of the time. If you can't afford to spend full price on XBL,
    then get the physical copy.

  12. On Xbox One, the entire game must be installed to the system from the Blu-ray game disc. Once it is installed, the disc is only accessed to verify ownership.

On Xbox One, both the digital downloads and the discs are exactly the same size. It's actually a rather neat feature of the system. If a friend installs their game from disc on your system, then when they go, you buy the digital version, there's no download
as the game already installed is simply unlocked to run without the disc verification. Very useful if your Internet connection isn't too snappy.

I myself have never run into storage issues because I only keep about 6 games or so on the console. Got externals for both 360 and One and paid about the cost of a disc version of the game and have about 3 TB of storage. Now based on a few factors if I buy
a disc game it costs me roughly about 93 USD not counting DLC or collectors/limited edition.

All that is based on the time it would take out of my day to drive and get it and miss out on a hour of work rather than be able to start a download and work at the same time. So for some users I get a disc might be right but for me personally there is no
point in it. Plus I have reduced so much clutter of games laying around since digital.

Lol Farscape247 that made me laugh. First off Microsoft dont store the game 40,000 times. They have several servers where the game is stored once. The request is recived the game is coppied instantly and streamed to you then deleted saving buyers details
for records. Secondly last time i checked i paid virgin media for my 100meg pipe not microsoft. It does not cost them a single penny to send me that game.

What does who supplies your Internet service have to do with anything? This has nothing to do with your ISP. You're thinking only of the cost on your end, not the cost on the back end.

Take a popular triple A title such as Call of Duty. The day the game is released, tens of thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of people will be downloading that game at the exact same time, as well as other people who will download
any other content at that time. Are you going to tell me, with a straight face, that that the power, the bandwidth, the server loads that they are going to encounter isn't going to cost them " a single penny"?
