We all know that microsoft

like's to take it's customers for every peny/cent/mark/frank/ ect that they own. But is there a genuine reason as to why the digital copies of xbox one and 360 games on xbox store are 20% more expensive than there hard disc counterparts. Which with packaging
retail shop mark up are far more expensive to produce than a digital copy made of fresh air.

Went to Gamestop earlier and saw games for $59.99, went onto the Xbox Store saw games for $59.99. Not seeing a 20% price disparity

 

And that gamestop purchase price was for rthe hard copy or did you not fully read my post like most kids.

 

And if you want to talk disparity not seen then chew on this. dying light digital £54.99 hard copy £44.99. Shadow of mordor digital £54.99 hard copy £44.99. GTA V digital £54.99 hard copy £44.99. Advanced warefare digital £54.99 hard copy £44.99. All these
hard copy prices in the uk were i live are the same at Game,Granger,Tesco,asda, anywere really were a hard copy can be bought, Thats at least 20% difference unless my math is wrong.

 

Then take a trip to the shops and buy the discs, very simple.

Or do you prefer the "convenience" of downloading them??

 

I download what i call keepers. If i know i'm gona trade i will get the hard copy. But this is irrelevent as i want to know is there a genuine reason why microsoft charge 20% more for a digital copy of a game that has virtually no overheads other than that
of its creation costs. Unlike its hard copy counterpart. The only reason there can be if there is no genuine reason is greed. As we all know this is microsofts main comandment "thou shall pay through the nose the highest amount aplicable". I'm not complaining
if thats what your getting at i simply want to know why if there is a genuine reason.

 

Am i wrong to ask. is that the kind of society microsoft thinks we live in.

Am I wrong to ask why you're singling out a single company? Last I checked, the same thing is also happening with other download services as well. Why are you only complaining about Microsoft?

The reason they do this is THEY DON'T DO THIS. There is not a single game that they charge 20% more for. The game store may drop the price by 20%, but that is their choice.

 

digital distribution costs bandwidth which is a lot more than a few pence per case and disc.

 

^ Care to elaberate on how exactely you arrived at said conclusion?

 

Storage of data, then distribution, take an example, cod aw 40GB, downloaded 40 thousand times = a lot of bandwidth at 1.6 petabytes (1600000 GB), data distribution costs more than selling a game in shops.

 

While it's true that digital distribution has costs, that still doesn't mean a game that sells for £44.99 in a store should necessarily be £54 as a download - I'm doing this in GBP of course, because that's my currency.

A like Zen stated, why is the OP complaining about just Microsoft? Sony's prices are just the same. Any just why are they same you ask? Simple, neither Microsoft or Sony control digital download prices 100%. The prices are set by the publishers, not the
distributer.

 

^^ Your elaboration, while well thought out is still not a logical single, nor collective excuse as to the reason for Digital Copies costing the same, if not - in some cases maybe - more than Physical copies.

Off topic: Apart from FREE with GOLD. I'll stick to physical copies regardless of how little/huge digital games cost.
