WD My Passport not bring recognised when connecting....

I've just about thrown the towel in on attaching an external HDD to my Xbox One. I've tried all and they've all failed miserably. And then I ththought firmware, I wonder if this is out of date? And then there's the WD Smatware which I know for a fact will
work but after removing this from MyPasport will it work...

External Storage Compatibility / Performance

WD My Passport is a good portable drive that works just fine with the console. Besides that I could also suggest checking out WD Elements Portable as a more inexpensive option and WD My Passport X which is designed specifically for Xbox users:

For desktop external drives with larger capacities you can check out WD Elements Desktop and WD My Book. Both of the should also work just fine and give you more space for your games and media. The difference would be that they have separate power sources
and are not powered by the USB port:

Pretty much any USB drive should work on your console.

I spent ages trying to get a drive working until I realised it wont read them if there are any partions on the drive I got a drive and had a tiny 100mb partion on it

 

Yep you'll correct there is a 200MB partition which is hidden but I've got software to remove this and I'll give it a go later on. What I find mind boggling is the fact there are videos out there where people just atrach one and it works first time which
is what really does my head in. Because you'd have a better chance getting into fortknocks that getting one of these working... Its done my head in.

As mentioned above, make sure it hasn't any other partitions. Also, if it is formated in a format that is not common to windows, it might not also work. (ie Linux partitions etc..) If it has been used before i would make sure to delete all partitions, then
make one whole partition and format it to NTFS and try then. Should work. And i say ..should..

 

I am curious: have you previously used the WD Smartware utility to password protect/lock the hard drive? My WD Passport does not have a hidden partition, which leads me to believe it does not have a hidden partition when brand new until created by Smartware.

 

Oops! ...Um yes I did and I completely forgot but I turned it off... But only for my PC... Oh **** I'm such an idiot. FriendlyGopher you've hit the nail on the head. I hang my head in shame. I've never used a WD My Passport before, I have always used Seagate
and this was the reason why I missed this. I'll turn it off completely using the security software.

RESOLVED... Just to let you all know that the HDD is now working after I turned the security lock off...? To which I am still embarrassed about because I didn't even think of it. Thank for all your input and especially FriendlyGopher.
