    WD My Book Duo - Not Detected At Boot Time


    Hi All,

    I was running a USB 3.0 external Hitachi 4TB drive on my xbox one, but was running out of space so I decided to upgrade to an 8TB external WD My Book Duo, which is a RAID-0 solution.

    Plugging it in whilst the system is running and the drive is detected and could format to xbox format to use for games and apps, great.

    Shutdown and restart console sometime later and drive isn't detected. Reconnect drive and it's detected again. Problem persists every time I shutdown and restart the console. Tried another usb cable, made no difference. Plugged drive into a dedicated
    power socket, made no difference.

    Sometimes when I connect it, I receive the strange message "we've detected your drive, but the connection isn't strong enough. Try another usb port or cable". Considering it's a powered USB drive, that shouldn't be happening.

    I also have an external 512GB SSD via USB3.0 and it works perfectly, so there is something about this specific drive the xbox doesn't like or recognize, perhaps the fact is has a RAID controller.

    Anyone got a WD My Book Duo on xbox one and got it working properly ? (I have an xbox one x if it makes any difference)

    Boot up time with external HDD takes about double the time than without. Is that normal?

    I do a cold boot all the time and haven't noticed any difference in boot up times. I am using a WD my book 3TB HDD.

    Biggest hard drive?

    External Hard drive not connecting

    lastly, I have three WD programs installed on my PC from the first use with this. It is the WD Smartware, WD Security, and WD Utilities. WD Security does not recognize that the My Book is connected, WD utilities does, but when I check status it says Smart
    Status Failed, and when I choose to erase disk it says too many bad passwords. in the WD smartware tool, it shows the My book but doesn't allow me to open My book or view the properties. Since I can see any options anywhere to re-format this I'm not sure
    what else there is to do besides erase the disk.

    If the drive is formatted as NTFS then to stream media to the 360 you will need to do it through your PC, it wont work directly.
