WD My Book 6 TB HDD issues

Hey everyone i just bought a new 6TB WD My Book for games and storage. My Xbox 1 X is not recognizing it nor is my laptop i know i need to format it but I don't know exactly what is the issue with it its brand new from Walmart. If anyone has advice or
ran into the same issue but solved it please respond with the answers please and thank you.

I would agree if the Xbox one couldn't use an external HDD, but it can, so the 500GB HDD was plenty to begin with. 1 TB xbox ones are also available right now.

The WD HDD Book version is just as good as the passport, they both use WD HDD drives. Mine has run since the update and works perfect!

If nothing recognizes the drive then there is really nothing that you can do. The drive is probably faulty and you should take it back for an exchange.

I would say that the best steps for you to take would be listed on our support page entitled

Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One.

If that does not do the trick, it indeed may be that the drive is incompatible.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your annoying issues with the formatting of the WD My Book external.

Have you tried using the Storage settings on your Xbox One to format it for games & apps, after the Windows PC partitioning/formatting?

If it still isn't detected properly by your console, I'd recommend you to test the external HDD's health and SMART status using WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostic on your PC. You should run both the quick and the extended test from the utility. Here's a link

Be patient with the extended test, it could take some time for a 6 TB HDD.
