    Hey there, Tiamot73!

    I'm sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

    I'd advice you to try formatting your WD My Book on a computer, as Major Wreckus suggested. The most important thing is that the drive needs to be formatted in FAT32 if you want Xbox to detect it. There's an article in WD knowledge base that can help you
    do it with any OS: wdc.custhelp.com/.../291

    If it still doesn't work, I suggest you contact our tech support:
    support.wdc.com/.../contact.asp

    You can also get a replacement, if your WD My Book is still under warranty.

    To you and to any other poor soul who thinks their hard drive is broken or needs formatted on their pc, here's what to do. You have to format it manually on your Xbox under settings, system, storage, manage storage and select the external one. It'll then
    ask you if you want to format it.

    I have a 2tb my book wd, the drive is formatted to NTFS (default) in my pc after format I plug it into my xbox one and nothing shows up, it doesn't show up under settings>system>storage. The white light of the drive just blinks but nothing happens.

    If it was a used HD you may have a problem , if not just reformat it....u lose what's there tho....

    connect the drive to the xbox, hard restart the console (full shut off then on), once loaded back up go to settings, system then storage, you should have the option to format for game storage.

    This time I agree with you Goth Vampirella, Microsoft needs to make more 1TB or even 2TB Xbox One consoles, 500GB just isn't enough.

    I would agree if the Xbox one couldn't use an external HDD, but it can, so the 500GB HDD was plenty to begin with. 1 TB xbox ones are also available right now.

    The WD HDD Book version is just as good as the passport, they both use WD HDD drives. Mine has run since the update and works perfect!

    plug it into your computer and format it (try ntfs). Once done, unplug it and try it on the Xbox One again. May work.

    I got the WD my book 3TB drive and it said we see you have a external storage...and it asked me if I wanted to format the drive, etc. After that it was good to go. If you have it plugged into the side usb port of the xbox one, unplug it and plug it into
    the back usb port of the xbox one.
