  1. Wd elements hard drive for media player not being recognized

I'm recently having issues now connecting my 10 tb WD elements external hard drive for media use. I have a 10tb for game installations for ease of access(plugged in the back). I've switched cables, power supply, different ports, hard reset and factory reset. It won't read what so ever. It reads perfectly on my old Vista laptop(10+ years old) to my windows 11 computer.

I don't know what's going on. What I've done recently was got a new router, I changed my files for titles by switching the years first. I added text and image for a test to see the info would appear of the file. I had a file for my old Vista to back up my files to switch to my new computer for back up.

It wouldn't let me delete it for some odd reason bc I copied and pasted the documents and pictures to my external HD. But I have successfully removed it. When I connect it to my latest laptop. It appears the elements needs to be recover to fixed it. I'm at a lost. I'm going to try my other xbox when it comes home. But I'm at loss what to do except delete everything

    External Storage Compatibility / Performance

    Hey there ATSooGamer,

WD My Passport is a good portable drive that works just fine with the console. Besides that I could also suggest checking out WD Elements Portable as a more inexpensive option and WD My Passport X which is designed specifically for Xbox users:

    WD Elements Portable:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

    WD My Passport X:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

For desktop external drives with larger capacities you can check out WD Elements Desktop and WD My Book. Both of the should also work just fine and give you more space for your games and media. The difference would be that they have separate power sources
and are not powered by the USB port:

    WD Elements Desktop:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

    WD My Book:
    products.wdc.com/.../kb.ashx

Pretty much any USB drive should work on your console.

Feel free to ask if you happen to have questions :)

Xbox series S will not recognize any of the 3 external hard drives I have (Ive tried everything)

I'm experiencing the same issues with the Xbox Series X. Some of my older WD Elements drives seem to work for media, but the WD Passport 5TB and Seagate Expansion Portable 5TB does not. I've tried everything from switching cables to formatting to NTFS to factory resetting the Xbox and nothing seems to work.

The strange thing is you can choose "Format Storage Device" and it will work normally but you can't store anything else on it since Windows will not recognize the partition. If you choose "Use for media", you will never see the HDD on your Xbox again unless you do a factory reset.

Using a external hard drive on xbox one

ok so I just took the brand new WD 6TD my book external hard drive out of the box, connected it by the usb cord into the usb port on the console and for some reason the console recognized it as a media storage devise for music and pictures. It did not let
me format the drive or choose to use it to store my saved games. I then connected the drive to my windows pc that is using windows 8.1 and formatted it and when I re-connected the drive to my xbox one console it still recognized it as a media drive. I have
no idea why it is doing this.
