Watching TV Through Xbox One – Random Freezing?

Looks like this isn't just cable box. It happens on my pc too.

I hooked up my pc as a pass-thru to the DTV input of Xbox One and when I connect my pc I can hear the device install sound and uninstall sound.

When it installs, the display isn't frozen. Then the pc will have an uninstall sound and everything is frozen again for 30 sec. to as long as 2 minutes.

Xbox will repeat this about 3-4 times before the display is not frozen any more. When I play a video or have any kind of sound played again, once audio stops, the display is frozen again.

I tested this repeatedly using a couple different 1.4 hdmi cables. I also tested this using Splashtop on my Surface 2 and when my pc display is frozen, Splashtop is showing everything is functioning fine on my pc so this must be a driver issue or Xbox One
issue. I know it's working on the pc as I can see my mouse movements and Adobe Flash animations on a website are running smoothly, but on the Xbox it's frozen for another minute, rinse and repeat 3-4 times again as above. I can also go to devices on my pc
and see that Xbox One 2(High Definition Audio Device) is installed. And yes i've uninstalled, rebooted, unchecked audio enhancements, etc.

I have no issues of this when I connect my Surface 2 with Miracast and a Netgear PTV3000.

Please help me find a solution.

    :)

  2. Watching TV Through Xbox One – Random Freezing?

Hey guys I am new to xbox and posting on these forums. I just got my xbox one. I choose the Xbox one over the PS4 for the tv feature and wanted to try a different console. Anyways after setting up everything that was required I was excited to test out
the voice command and watch tv however like many of you out there I noticed that my tv would lag or freeze constantly, this really got on my nerves and led me to google for a solution, however nothing seem to solve the problem until I came across a post can't
remember who posted it but here's what I did and since then no freezes or lag. It doesn't matter what cable company you are with this works for all. I have a scientific atlanta explorer 8300hd dvr box go to your HD settings mines was set to passthrough I changed
it to convert to 720 or less and then in the Xbox one tv and display setting change your display to 720 after that I just quit the tv app and turned it back on and no more freezing. As for audio I left every thing as is haven't had time to play with it. For
some reason the xbox one is having trouble converting the display between 720 and 1080 hence the lag hopefully microsoft can fix this via software update cause I bought a led LCD tv to watch 1080, I also recommend if you have a high speed hdmi cable not in
use swap it out with the one that came with the xbox one prior to the solution I tried, I changed my hdmi cable and saw so improvements the cable appears to be cheaply made.

Why can't I watch my tv without the xbox one powered on

Does the xbox one automatically go into power save mode when I'm watching TV? I have my xbox one setup to turn on and off my cable box and tv through kinect commands. I just wonder how much power I'm using when just watching tv?

Watching TV Through Xbox One – Random Freezing?

@Eminent1 I'm also having this same issue when using an Android Mini PC Stick connected to the HDMI input of the Xbox One, the screen will just randomly freeze and lock up, how ever if I put the HDMI connection direct in to the back of the TV its fine.

I've tried switching the display in the Android box to 720p 50hz, 720p 60hz, 1080p 50hz & 1080p 60hz, all out puts give the same freezing issue.

The only way to clear it is to go back to the Xbox Home page and quit the TV application, but after reloading it the screen is fine for about 5-6 seconds before it freezes again.

The one thing I am yet to check is if my Android box outputting sound through HDMI as 2 channel or above.

I guess we just need to wait for a software fix.

Ok I have some additional info on this. I am running Windows 8 Media Center wired into an Xbox One. I remoted into the computer while this was happening using SplashTop HD and from the computers perspective it's loosing it's connection with the xbox. The
picture on the xbox freezes while the splashtop connection continues. The I attempted changing the resolution to 720p as someone mentioned earlier and that did not change anything. However I did notice that the computer said it's monitor was "Xbox One".
Then every once and a while it switches to VGA Device and resolution is lost. then back again. It's like the Xbox one is dropping it's connection to the computer. I have no problem with the computer if I connect it directly to the tv.

I also tried a hard reboot on the xbox and that worked for a few minutes.

The first few days I used the tv features I had no problem. now it doesn't work for more than a few minutes.

I will be sending this message to xbox support as well.

My solution: In the energy/power settings I disabled the sleep/wakeup option. My TV started working immediately after that, I didn't even have to reboot.

I have Comcast, through a Motorola box. My TV worked fine from launch until today. It started freezing for about 5 seconds every 10-15 seconds. I tried reboots on the xbox and cable box, but nothing helped until I toggle the option above. Like others have
said, I think it had to do with my using the "Xbox On" voice command from sleep mode and it somehow got screwed up.

  7. For those having PC pass-through issues. Are you using an onboard gpu (like Intel graphic chipset)? Or a dedicated graphics card?

Guys..I am having the same issues with the 8300HD.....here is what I learned.....

you can set it to 720....and like some people have noticed, once you do, it switches back to 1080i..the reason is it auto detects an HDMI cable and ONLY outputs at the 1080i resolution...

So that is an issue that MS will have to fix somehow...

I had the random freezing thing pop up two days ago out of nowhere. I wasn't too bothered with it as there wasn't anything on that I wanted to watch, but today is Walking Dead day so can't miss that. Watching TV Through Xbox One – Random Freezing? :)

Anyhoo, I noticed this happens outside the cable box. (Box is working fine while freezing is happening and if I connect it directly to the TV I have no such issue) So they only thing it could possibly be is the xbox one.

I held in the power button for 5 seconds or whatever and it shut down completely. I waited 30 seconds and turned it back on and that's all it took for me to have it back in working condition. I'm guessing this issue has to do with their TV application or
    something related to it.

I think they are referring to the energy saving or instant on options found under the power & start up options. Since I have left mine in energy saving I have not had the issue happen once in over 2+months. It just sucks that I can't use the feature that
I am supposed to be able to use like by telling the xbox to turn on, and having all my other stuff turn on through the xbox

I guess this has not been resolved yet... Have the same issue with cablevision scientific Atlanta explorer 4250hd box... Using the hdmi cable from the Xbox 360 elite unit for the hdmi in connection... Tried putting the Xbox one in energy saving mode, did
    not help...

I have the same cable box as you. What worked for me was holding down the powerbutton to the xbox down for 5 seconds until it shut down, I waited 30 seconds and then turned it back on again. That took care of the freezing issue for me.

I'm fairly sure it IS the HDMI pass through on the XBOX One. If you completely power down your xbox every time you use it, you should not have the problem. Holding down the power button is basically doing the same thing as shutting it down completely (as
in energy saving mode rather than using the instant on option in the power saving settings). If you choose to leave it in the instant on option the problem will come back eventually.
