Watching movies off external hard drive

Hello everybody, I was wondering if its possible to transfer movies from my PC on to the newly XB1 formatted external hard drive.

It seems that the hard drive, once formatted, the drive can only be detected by an XB1 and nothing else... and when I plug it into my computer it can't even be detected...

    :)

  2. Data Erased

I plugged in an external hard drive to watch a movie. After watching the movie I put a game in for my son to play. It said that it could not find any saved data, even though there was saved data for the game prior to using the hard drive. Any assistance
    would be appreciated.

  3. External Hard Drive Movies

I think if they put a focus on being able to play films through HDD an artwork list is highly likely. Problem is, they may not want to put too much focus on this area as it may encourage piracy and detracts from the services they already provide like the
    film rentals and Netflix.

I have no doubt though that HDD support will also come with film and video support, I just don't fully expect it come with an all singing and dancing movie player.

OK that's a bit rubbish, how would I go about revert my hard drive to its former state as only XB1's can read it...

I plugged in 2tb WD hard drive and I don't want it to got to waste... I was just testing it out really lol

I don't know that either, but Ice Storm might know how to put it back, you may want to ask in the support forum, Click Here.

I would think even after formatting the hard it would still be recognised by a computer, just not accessible until it is reformatted for windows.

Have you tried plugging it into the computer and checking device manager? Or the drive management tool(or whatever its called, I haven't used a Windows based computer other than for work)?

I bet the Xbox formats it to a format not recognized by other devices or not compatible with other devices. Also it is a means to prevent piracy.

Thanks for the input everyone, I had to do a bit more digging around in control panel and it is being recognised as an 'unknown device' there's an option to uninstall the driver etc.

Just a bit sad that with my collection of my movies can't be watched with voice control, sometimes I can't be arsed to get out of bed to switch everything off lol [tag:firstworldproblems]

But i understand privacy issues yaddi yadda yah

  10. If you've got a pc connected to the same network as your Xone then you can use the PlayTo function to stream video to your xbox, just launch xbox video on your xbox then go to your pc and right click the video file and there should be a option to PlayTo,
click that and choose the xbox, it should then start playing on your tv through the xbox. This is what I do at the moment.

^^If you are in the US it would probably be better to use OneDrive to watch your movies. It eliminates the need to get up. FYI 100 GBs of OneDrive storage from bing rewards is a steal

That's weird, regardless of the format Windows should still recognize it as a hard drive or mass storage device and give access to reformat , might check the manufacture's website and see if they have some sort of recovery tool.

Or maybe see it a boot CD, like Hiren's BootCD, has USB hard drive support.

Cheers @BAZRA89 my computer already had xb1 on there... all I had to do was right click on scroll down to 'Play to' and voila!

Now I'll have to reformat it @zero divided thanks mate, very peculiar how the pc can't view it all.
