    Watching Cable TV (Using HDMI Input)

    Hi!

    This support article is a bit long but hopefully covers everything

    Hope it helps!

    HDMI Cable cannot plug in!!

    It appears that there is only 1 HDMI input on those TV's from my research. So you will have to use the A/V cables to play or change out your HDMI cables when you want to play and watch TV. It sounds like your TV box is also using HDMI. So both can not be
    plugged in at the same time with only 1 port

    Watching tv with xbox off?

    No, use two cables each to a HDMI port on the TV and then use your TV remote to change between HDMI inputs.

    Live TV input to XBOX ONE looks darker than expected.

    Ok. I think we're at a point where we've confirmed that it is the XBOX ONE that is the issue. It's not my cable box, HDMI cables, HDMI splitter, A/V receiver, or TV.

    ===================

    I performed GZA's test. I setup my HW as follows:

    Cable, HDMI, SPLITTER, HDMI, TV INPUT 1

    HDMI, TV INPUT 2

    I paused the cable box and switched between the inputs and the images were the same. No differences in color. So it's not the HDMI splitter or TV input settings.

    ===================

    Next I performed my test where I removed the cable box from the equation in an attempt to prove my theory that it doesn't matter what is connected the XBOX hdmi input . I plugged my XBOX 360 into my XBOX ONE's HDMI input and also directly to my TV as follows:

    XBOX 360, HDMI, SPLITTER, HDMI, TV INPUT 1

    HDMI, XBOX ONE, HDMI, TV INPUT 2

    I paused a trailer on the XBOX 360 (Man of Steel) and switched between the TV inputs and the XBOX ONE's version was darker (just like when it was the cable box). I repeated the same setup but used my PS3 in place of the XBOX 360..yup you guessed it same
    result: XBOX ONE's version was darker.

    ====================

    XB1R,

    I think we've clearly shown here that you should be able to easily reproduce this issue. You don't need my cable box to see it you can use a XBOX 360. Please keep in mind that this is a somewhat subtle difference and that you need to pay attention to the
    darker portions of the image when comparing.

    Please get this fixed! The XBOX shouldn't alter my HDMI input like this. I lose a lot of detail in the image when watching TV through the XBOX so I find myself not using it.

    can i watch my cable through my xbox one without having to turn on my xbox one?

    Incorrect. The Xbox One does NOT pass through the cable box output over HDMI with the Xbox off (if it did, you would still have to use HDMI2 because it is still running through the Xbox). If you are really able to watch cable TV through the Xbox One when
    the TV is set to HDMI2 and also watch cable TV directly using your cable box when the TV is set to HDMI1, then one of 4 things is going on:

    1) Your cable box has 2 HDMI outputs, one connected to the Xbox and the other directly to the TV. I am not aware of such a box with 2 HDMI outputs.

    2) You have 2 separate cable boxes.

    3) You are using an HDMI splitter to simultaneosly output your cable box to the HDMI input on the Xbox and the HDMI1 input on the TV.

    4) You are confused--for example, perhaps your cable box is actually connected directly to your TV with component/composite, in addition to being connected to the Xbox via HDMI.

    #3 is the only good solution to OP's problem. I can confirm the Monoprice 8204 HDMI splitter works well for this.

    Actually, because OP's TV only has one HDMI input, OP will also need an HDMI switch in addition to the splitter. Monoprice has those also.
