Watch Dogs and severe FPS drop

Just wondering if anyone else has picked up Watch Dogs and encountered this problem with their system. I'll be playing the game for 30-45min and it will gradually start dropping frames until I hit 5-10 FPS. Playing multiplayer games or environments where
there are tons of particle effects (explosions, steam, water, etc.) brings the game to a grinding halt. In the worst instance the game completely locked up and required a close/restart, although the Xbox remained on. The exhaust port feels like I could cook
an egg on it and the pitiful fans refuse to ramp up to an RPM that would mitigate the problem (if there was one, not sure on the processors TDP).

Talked to live chat support and they said to bring my console in for a repair, however if this is a wide spread problem due to poor Ubi coding/insufficient cooling on the Xbox I'd rather not deal with the hassle. Wish I could pop my console open and strap on
a real heatsink+fan with some new TIM, warranties be damned. :/

30 FPS is fine, the higher frame rate of 60 FPS really makes a difference for First Person Shooters and Racing games. Watch Dogs is not attempting to be either of those genres.

 

Xbox 360 - Watch Dogs or GTA IV Complete Edition

Hello. I want buy new game for Xbox 360, but i can't choose between Watch Dogs or GTA IV Complete Edition. I saw lots of videos of Watch Dogs on X360 and it doesn't look very good (texture pop ups, FPS issues...), opposite GTA IV look too much blury. What
would you recomend me buy Watch Dogs or GTA IV Complete Edition?

I've noticed it too every once in awhile. I'm sure they will patch it down the road for better performance. I know the PC version is also having trouble running it on certain brands of graphics cards...so I'm assuming this issue is happening on all platforms?

 

I'm hoping it can be solved with a simple patch. The symptoms pretty much mirror what happens if you try and run Far Cry 3 on ultra with a GTX 465, which was entertaining before I got my GTX770

I'm just hoping it's not a larger problem with the Xbox One and not being able to handle certain games. Watch Dogs definitely is the best looking game I've played since the console release, but it's already at 792p/30fps so there's not much room to downgrade

I noticed really annoying stutters and lags on my Xbox as well when playing WatchDogs. Console gets pretty noisy, you can hear fans spinning up. Im not sure if the game is actually not optimized properly, or 'next gen consoles' are actually lacking power
to run 'next gen graphics'. I'm a bit nervous about buying the console now, since I used to be a PC gamer, and since WD is already running 792p/30fps, new game released 6 months after the console was released, and it barely keeps up at 729p / 30 fps.

@RoshGA, That was my worry as well. I'm still 80% in the PC gamer camp and was pretty disappointed when I found out that I couldn't swap in a new SSD or HDD as I've already filled up 77% of the drive, the *cough* Sony camp doesn't have that issue. The bulk
of the MSRP appears to be tied up in the Kinect and Xbox OS since there isn't much hardware to speak of. All that being said it's a decent do everything machine, it will just never be the best at rendering high quality games :/

@GrowlingYapper, I've also had issues joining friends in games but apparently it's a known issue and is being worked on (support.xbox.com/.../xbox-live-status).
Looks like it's coming from Ubisoft's end. I also haven't been able to sync up my UPlay unlocks with the game. Both of these issues are completely unrelated (in theory) to the FPS drops, as drops this severe are almost always hardware related.

 

I been having a problem with the console suddenly shutting itself off. This is the only game that this has happened. My power brick lights are ok. The console starts right up again, of course I lose all my progress. My understanding is that it shuts down
to protect from heat damage. I am going to play some other games to see if they cause the same thing, if not it's Watchdogs causing it.

 

I get this frame rate drop too after doing 2 or 3 online games. Then I have to drop to single player because it becomes unplayable. Then load back in to multiplayer.

I think UBi have a memory leak in the game from all the loading into different parts of the city.

 

@Bazajaytee, I guess a memory leak would be possible but it's not like any I've experienced before. My system never shuts down/total locks, which is what has happened in the past on my PC (BF4). Eventually WD freezes completely and backs out to the XB home
screen, requiring a restart/load of the game. The system OS appears to be working fine and is lag/glitch free. I suppose it's a nice feature of the OS if it dumps the highest use programs if the RAM gets tied up, but my Hulu/Netflix and other apps don't appear
to be affected, only WD's, which seems odd for a memory leak.
