I noticed something that changed that most people would care about, let a lone notice on the last update.

Before, if there was a 50 GB update to a 50 GB game ( that's the equivalent of, instead of fixing a baby through neonatal surgery using 2 GB of "surgical code" , just snuggling, waiting 9 months and calling that a new version of the kid and letting the first
kid die.) i would be checking making sure no one uses the net for the rest of the night, and start downloading in the night.

You kind of have to do that when your maximum non-satellite speed that works with Xbox is 1.5 Mb/s in, 400 kb/.s out.

Before I'd load maybe a few Gig over 8 hours of sleep, pause it in the morning, shut off the Xbox One, and pick it up the next night. Well I tried downloading the "We Were Here" Free Gold Game. The Internet was busy that night so we only got 1 GB in.
Well there was about 500 Meg to go, and I paused it yesterday, and shut it off. When I came back today. It started at 12 kB. It lost a whole Gig of data that I didn't ask it to erase.

Now I am self-aware enough to know I'm basically an Amish Gamer0 (actually most real Amish who don't COMPLETELY shun the internet out of religious principles have better internet than I do.) so vey few people have my problems. Most people live in an area
with more than one carrier WAY over the 2010 broadband definition of 3 Mb/s in 1 Mb/s pot carrier that's not satellite. I have ZERO such, and only one "mesoband carrier" (faster than dial up but not legally "basic broadband" for Federal purposes in 2010.
Now it's 25 Mb in, 3 Mb out.)

The September update caused this problem.

First of all. is the erasing of incomplete files a feature of the new OS, or an oversight?

If it's an oversight, can you please change that back?

If it is a feature, may I know what its purpose is? Why would anyone voluntarily have their data erased, unless they can get a 50 Gig game in 5 minutes of downloading and value the better hard disc management than time savings. That is literally the only
reason I can see without being told.

If that is the intention of the feature, may I suggest instead of 2 game categories "Installed" and "ready to download", maybe there should be a third: "Incomplete loads" And it shows the reserved space, the actual space currently used, the amount remaining,
and lets you assess the sitch and make your own decisions instead of throwing all incomplete programs overboard automatically.

To most people that's economizing disc space. To me that's running out of gas on the information superhighway and being towed back towards your origin instead of your destination. I waste time going nowhere.

What's easier? Having a gamer with 1 one inefficiently used Terabyte of a 2TB hard disc go down to the hard drive store, and pick up an extra hard drive, or having someone with 1.5 Meg go down to the "bandwidth store" and pick up a more reasonable internet
    stream?

The one thing that's making it hard is that none of the cellular internet companies want to help. They say if they help us, they have to help everyone, and that means overcrowded networks, so the first thing to go is home machine compatibility, like Xbox,
Computers, and Dish Network On demand.

It doesn't help that I can't go to the library, load my updates on a USB thumb drive and physically transport them to my Xbox. It looks like as soon as an update is made, the game is considered dead permanently until I find another way.

Luckily I'm making progress with my cell company. There is a way to get unlimited home-deivce internet, but it requires family co-coperation, and I'm not the head of household.

One cell company had a tendency to help people like me. If the are sincere, and are not just paying lip service, I may negotiate a deal for people in my situation of living in a broadband desert be able to use cellular more freely with their home devices.

In the meantime, doesn't assume the whole world is swimming in broadband. I've been having trouble since I moved, and even tried to do something productive while dealing with my situation, namely review games on the basis of low-bandwidth friendliness,
available at 56ok.org . I'm probably literally the only video game reviewer which considerers running on lower bandwidth than advertised minimums a criteria.

If I can get a deal for more than just me, ypu'll see me post something new on that website, an affiliate link to my cellular company.

    :)

You should still be able to pause updates, and continue downloading them at your own convenience.

If you select, "Cancel all", there should've been a prompt that says:

    Clear the queue?

Canceling installations and updates might uninstall the items in question. Anything being moved or copied will remain in its original location.
Also, the dashboard reduces download speed by 75% if a game is running. This happens because if someone is playing a MP game the bandwidth allows them to play well vs. slowing their ping time, etc. as a result of a game download.

I swear, before the update. I can pause updates, wait until the next night and pick off where you left off.

We have to stop to "free the internet" to do the other things we want. If I can't make progress and make sure it picks up where it left off, there's no point in starting over and over and over again.

Did anyone KNOW you were going to affect people like me when you made the update? Now that you know it makes it impossible to large large games unless you shut off the computer, phone, other games, and lirterally everyhitng else for a straight 254 hours
jsut to load a large game, are you guy going to do anything about, like revert to have progress saved to pick up where it left off?

also there are some times where it temporarly drops down to essentially zero, and after that it cuts off the signal, stopping the download and forcing a restart with your new system.

By the way,, is there a real good reason why me spinning my tires and going nowhere helps the xbox experience in some other way? i'd l;ike to hear it. If not, you sabotag an already unusually large system, with 50 Gig updates for 50 Gig games, just to
add a proverbial single missing comma in "War and Peace."

I remember there were SURGICAL updates on the 360 that weree no more than 10 minutes at 500 kb/d with a maximum update size of 10 Meg.

On a 360 Disc game, Super Street Fighter IV, I remember one update not measured not in Megabits, not even in Kilobits, but in Bits, I think dial up modems started in the Kilobits/second range. It was never in the bits/second range.

MAYBE I can accept the non-surgical nature of the downloads, the 50 Gig downloads for 20 Meg worth of editing data. But that was before you sabotaged all progress before getting there. It could be 99% complete, with about 12-24 hours of downloading, people
giving up their web videos, emails, and telephone calls for my games, and then at a power outage, its default action is to erase the incomplete file. then we wasted a day, a night, sacrficed lots of usage, burned lots of energy, for N OTHING.

It doesn't make Ecomonical sense. It doesn't make Ecological sense.

You want to make money? You want to make the Eartl not waste resources? THen don't auto Erase files AND d comploetye retypes of games.

Either institute mandatory surgical updates, don't erase incomplete games, or even both.

Finally, the only non- satallite service I can get with enough speed is cell pone, but all the cell phones limit "tethered data" either through USB, WiFi. etc. With very company, At&T, Verziom. Sprint, and T-Moblie, as well as all the rebundler carriers,
you get either cut off, feed the meter for every gig, or get cut down to 2G speeds when tethering, which is charitably 3x dial up speeds.

I know bey expeirence this in real life that Sprint MAY have a solution and eevery customer service person loves it at Sprint, but can't advance me to a corporate higher up.

Sprint should have a Veolicty servcie. Whrere if your movement velocity is 15 km/s or less, meaning you're eityher using it at home, at another FIXED location, or taking a leisurely stroll, (by the way , 15 km/h is your average speed when you run the 1500
m race at exactly 4 minutes.) then you tap into the WiMax, the old system Sprint had when they, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Earthlink, Clear, and a few oter companies made it cheapier asnd easier to get internet to house where it's to expensive to physically
    wire a street with cable.

Where are most of the Cellular congfested aras, 8 lane highways, or por sporting events. By diefinitiopn of all sports, even Indy Car, Fortmula 1, and Nascar, have one thing in coooon desppite high speeds. The fans bascally stay in one place, or at fastest
move walking speed towards the bathroom.

Wimax didn't work because it promised to be a universal new 4G. However there was one big problem. Being in motion slowed your internet down. Walking may have slowed it down form 50 Mb/s to 49, but at some point, around 10-20 km/h the faster you moved,
the slower it got a faster rate the internet got. (the only time where yo can go slower and faster together.) At freeway speeds, it was only twice the speed of 3G at the time.

    \

And even though the top speed of LTE is faster in motion than the the speed of Wimax when perfectly still. LTE uses many times more resources (whatever it takes to make a network work) per Megabaud (a baud is a bit per second) Than LTE. I thnk LTE takes
    about 10X resources at 50 Mb/s than WiMax at 50 Mb;/s.

If 10K+ people who are stationary for 3+ hours can switch from LTE to WiMax, then that should free up enough room to allow both stationary and mobile people to use internet for more than just phones. If you want to play a hypotheitcal portable Xbox, a
hypotheitcal PSP3 coming soon, or even today a Nntendo Switch or 3DS, I would gladly give up half your top speed to make it not a cellular phone only network package.

    How many of you would?

Then finally I'll have 50Mb/s in the house to play Xbox Online and not have to download updates for 12 hours straight and (thanks to the recent update,) wasting electricity and time for literally nothing.

Was erasing partial downloads on thehard drive after the update a) an oversight, or b) a feature?

    Hello Triple,

Thanks for posting the issue you are having with installs. With the first part where the game went back to 12kb. Xbox has something in place that if a game is paused or stopped it will most times restart. The reason for this is to stop corrupt installs.

Now to the biggest issue you are facing with your internet speeds. The
    minimum requirements
for internet speed on Xbox are 3mb down and 1.5mb upload. Your speeds are way under that. We recommend to leave the game installing in background. It will stop and start multiple times and such, but it will be continuous and will not
start over unless stops for a long length of time.

    Hope this helps.

Red Dead Redemption won't finish downloading after 4 attempts. Gets to 98% and then stops

you already have the partial game saved in hard drive memory. are you erasing it before you start over? if the file is corrupted you will never be able to complete the download. erase and start over again
