Warzome - Massive latency/packet burst spikes - Wi-Fi and wired

    Hi

Been playing COD Warzone since it came out, Xbox One. Recently, around Season 3, I have started having packet bursts and then huge latency spikes and then being kicked from the servers. VERY frustrating when I’ve just got all my gear on DMZ!

I have done the following to try and address this:

    - restarted internet

    - reset internet

    - speed tests - always over 110mbps download, around 10-20mbps upload, 10-20ms latency

    - turned off on demand texture streaming (on Wi-Fi and wired)

    - bought a fancy, gold plated etc etc cable

    - monitored latency/packet burst in game (all fine until the lagging suddenly happens!)

Most things online suggest all of these but nothing else.

Is anyone else having simile issues? Or have a potential fix? I don’t think it’s my internet at this point but it is happening on almost every game at this point, so doesn’t necessarily seem logical that it’s the game servers… Any help would be appreciated, thanks

    :)

Warzome - Massive latency/packet burst spikes - Wi-Fi and wired

Hi, Gerardo here. A fellow community member :)

As it happens with most games, it shouldn't be the game servers. Mind that while you are using your console to play online, it connects to the different game servers that each game developer runs.

In my case, I was experiencing brief stuttering and lagging and checked with my PC (running ping 8.8.8.8 -t) and discovered that my modem was dropping packets for about 5 seconds 3-4 times a day. Finally fixed it by calling the ISP and they adjusted the cable on the street post.

If you have a PC, you could try doing that to check if it is the same case

Any suggestions to help with lag

Does this happen in specific games or is it a general issue?

Do you use Wi-Fi? If so, could you possible use a wired connection instead? I would definitely test it out, even if you have to move the console temporarily, because if a wired connection makes the lag go away (or improves the situation considerably) then
at least you know that using Wi-Fi is the cause.

Another option, if you're using Wi-Fi and can't easily use a wired connection, is to use homeplugs. These use the electric cables in your walls to carry the signal. You plug one homeplug into a spare power socket near the router, then hook the router to
the homeplug with a cable, then you plug the other homeplug into a spare power socket near the console and connect it to the console with a cable. That gives you what is essentially a wired connection but without having to run a cable directly from the router
    to the Xbox.

But yeah, using Wi-Fi is often the cause of added lag. Online gaming doesn't require much bandwidth, but Wi-Fi can add latency or cause you to experience spikes of latency, which can then add general lag to your game or cause spikes of it.

    Issues Staying Connected

    Did a Network Statistics Test

    Latency: 147 ms

    Packet Loss: 9%

    Upload Speed: 3.66 mbps

    Download Speed: 1.06 mbps

    Signal Strength: 100%

    Wi-Fi Speed: 22 mbps

    Wired ethernet connection

Is your wi-fi working fine cause i run on wi-fi and it works fine apart from a high 200 ms latency how is your wi-fi connection ?

Will a Wifi extender with an ethernet cord hooked up from it to my xbox improve my internet?

    Hello!

I'm a Independent Advisor. I will be glad to help you.

Although a Wi-Fi extender can increase signal strength, it can increase latency a little, but it is ultimately an extra hop that packets have to make to communicate with the internet.

You may also experience other connection problems such as double NAT, although if it is a quality extender, the packet loss may be 0%, as you are most likely experiencing interference losses on your existing Wi-Fi.

It is best to connect your console directly to the modem/router via a cable, as this will eliminate packet loss due to interference and the latency will be about the same.

I hope the information has been clear, I will be attentive to any questions you may have.

    Best Regards.
