I have very mixed feelings about the Dynasty Warriors games. I played them a little bit while I was at my friend's house

On the plus side, I like the overall simplicity and fun factor of the game

On the negative side, it did get boring pretty quickly

Warriors Orochi 3 is pretty close to SW. It comes out September 2nd. If you pre-order now from gamestop you can get the super hype Halloween costumes. lol

I played Beyond good and evil a few years ago now and it's definitely a good game! I'm only really interested in Warriors 3 Orochi Ultimate, but I won't be playing it for a loooooooong time.

 

I'm not quite sure why you would even ask this since everyone's opinion of a good game is different.

You've shown in past threads that you usually hate games others have said are good.

To make it short, we'll use ALIEN ISOLATION as an example. Most here love it. You hated it.

So... just buy it (if you have money) and make up your own mind.

If you insist on someone else's opinion, I'll go with "it sucks!".

 

Fair enough asking other people's opinions when you've not had the chance to play the game but the game is just about at your fingertips !

Surely it would be easier going back to your friends house to play it or even borrow it for a few night's and you would be able to form your own opinion on the game and at the end of the day it's only your opinion that truly matters!

 

Plus going by what you've said it gets boring pretty quickly then that would be enough to put me off

The latter is newer, almost the same price and looks stunning with the cell shaded approach.

 

All musou games get boring quickly if you're not a fan of the genre.

 

These games used to be very rinse and repeat and would get trashed in reviews for years.

But with "Warriors Orochi" and "Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3", "Warriors: Legends Of Troy" and "The Fist Of The North Star 2: Ken's Rage" these games started to step out of the shadow of being "Rinse and Repeat" clones like EA Sports Titles offering more variety
of action, secondary characters that are really fun to play and twists and expansion on a format that was like flogging a dead horse.

The "Dynasty Warriors" series itself pulled up it's socks in turn through offering village management and a pet Tiger that will bite your enemies face off.

"Arslan: Warriors Of Legend" is based on "The Heroic Legend Of Arslan" fantasy novel that was then made into a popular manga and anime centred round the Persian Empire instead of medieval China or Japan.

By taking the story away from the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms, improving gameplay, innovating and creating polished titles Tecmo Koie has really transformed these games and if you haven't played one in a while they very much deserve a 2nd look.

 

Oh I agree, Omega Force/Tecmo have definitely pulled the games up a notch in recent times, I'm currently playing Dragon Quest Heroes: World Tree's Woe and loving it, I'm a fan of the genre but I definitely understand why people find the genre boring as the
OP pointed out with their experience with Orochi, musou games aren't for everyone.

 

I bought this game about 2 months ago and didn't really get on with it. I thought the graphics looked very dated, but my biggest gripe was that it didn't really explain what I was meant to be doing. I'm a fan of JRPG's and hack and slash, but I gave up on
this game very quickly. That obviously doesn't make it a bad game, and maybe I didn't give it chance, but on the short amount of time I spent on it (and with a backlog of other games) I wasn't inclined to do so.

 

Victory and Defeat Conditions are displayed before the match starts.

However when you play the game you need to keep up with necessary actions such as defeating specific adversaries, rescuing generals who are in trouble, rallying or supporting troops.

There's a very good mini-map that does a good job of telling you where you need to go and what you need to do, but these conditions change as the combat evolves and you must attend to your tasks quickly (especially if an ally is in trouble) or you risk playing
for 20 minutes only to be rewarded with ignominious defeat.

It's fun to smash legions of foes. The Supers are good fun As mentioned above "Arslan: The Warriors Of Legend" is a beautiful looking game.

 

I must have missed the conditions at the start, so I ended up chasing the red dots on the mini map until such point that a hydra type monster appeared, but I just couldn't seem to do any damage to it even using the big catapult type weapons that kept appearing.
I ended up as you say playing for 20 minutes and ending up in defeat.

Positive points for me were the huge number of kill combos that were very satisfying, and combining special character moves and the associated animations (these always excel and are a staple diet of Japanese based games).

I actually saw that this game was mentioned as a possibility for GWG (was actually mentioned on some websites for July, but obviously this was incorrect), so I'd welcome the chance to play again, but don't think I'd run out and buy it.
