Warranty time shortened with replacement

That's typically how most warranties work. The warranty is there to get you a working product within a certain amount of time, whether that be through repair or replacement. Even though they replace with a new item, you only paid for the initial warranty
so you get to keep the remainder of the warranty you paid for (included in the price of the item). There are some companies that offer the option to purchase an additional warranty when you do get a repair/replacement through warranty, but otherwise you just
get the remainder of your warranty.

Wrong, 30 days is the usual return time period to stores. The only time you can get a replacement in store is if you buy optional warranty such as Best Buy's Geek squad warranty. It's recommended yo buy warranty on these controllers.
