WARNING - If You're Thinking About Pre-Ordering Fortnite!

From link - Fortnite will be Free to Play when it launches in 2018. What is in the store right now is paid Early Access to the Beta with in-game goodies (crates, characters, etc.). Epic seems to have an issue with making
this clear to people and only has it subtly referenced on the news section of the game's webpage and nowhere in the store listing. That in my opinion is a big red flag and I want as many people as possible informed before they give Epic their money. Please
if you know someone interested in this game make sure they know what they're spending their money on.

MS support never got back to me so I've cancelled the pre-order. Poor customer service

Warning to anyone thinking of pre-ordering the game on the console to get the free rainbow six games, you might get the wrong code and support staff can't do anything about it but cancel the pre-order.

 

After procuring an Xbox One from Microsoft, how do I find out the Shipping and Delivery Date?

Thanks for the heads up, but as I am *not* preordering the game this warning does not apply to me. There's nothing remotely interesting about Fortnite at all! In fact, going by the E3 preview and all of the empty bombast, it could well turn out to be this
year's Battleborn. Ouch! And what does a "fortnite" got to do with some tower defense clone anyhow? Naming conventions just got broken.

 

I think what's kinda scary about this is the fact that they are pretty much charging people for beta access IMO. I have no interest in this game but found it interesting on the whole "pay for beta access" thingy. It's scary kinda since I think a
lot of gamers will assume they are paying for an actual game that's finished. One of the options to pre-order the game is $149.99! And it's basically a free-to-play game when it's actually released.

 

It's a bit low to be honest.

Having to pre order a game for beta access is low but this takes the biscuit.

This could open the door for publishers charging for beta access. Hopefully not, but I agree with Daft. This is just low.

 

They are charging for access to limited edition content and early access to the game. That's why there are varying price points.

Many online games do this...especially MMO's. Microtransactions are normal and to be expected.

 

The point is that isn't clear at all if you look at the game in the store.

Nowhere that I could find does it say this will be a free to play game on release.

I've also been in tons of betas that have been free & given me free in game goodies for when the actual game releases.

The cheapest version is £35,that's the price of a full game.

They do note on the store entry the following information:

NOTE: A Founder’s Pack is required to play Fortnite. Early Access begins on July 25, 2017.






So it tells the gamer upfront that there is a charge for the game. The purchase can't be made accidentally.

In the packs it states that part of the purchase price is for the early game access plus exclusive Founder items.

The game doesn't launch in full until 2018.

I've been in betas that were totally free as well, and I've been in betas that required payment in order to secure an account. It helps ensure they only get those serious about playing the game.

Generally this is where I tell folks that it's up to them to decide and to let their wallet do the talking. Fortnite isn't my style of game personally.

 

I don't really have a problem charging for a beta as it does get people that are more serious about it, but not making it clear that it will be free to play is lame.......like really lame.

I'm not into this game at all.

 

Word -_- It takes me back to this year's E3 where normally I would be watching breaking news on my Xbox livestream, however due to the topsy-turvy schedule I was instead resigned to watching an IGN feed @7am. My eyes were burning and all I wanted was something
to take the pain away. Instead, what I got was a live demo of Fortnite, and it hurt really bad! Somebody should tell Epic that Volition are storming the gates, and Agents of Mayhem offers up an all you can eat singleplayer buffet without the f2p (plus it's
only a month away). Boom tish!

 

@BluSwirl, after my last post I decided to watch more gameplay just in case I changed my mind, but I didn't. It still looked incredibly dull and boring. No thanks.
