Want to Change To Old Gamertag

Hello,

I was told to post here by support. So basically, I am wanting to change my gamertag back to my original one that I had changed from. The gamertag I would like is "Sadistic Grunt". I think it is still tied to my account somehow because when I go into party
chat my name still shows up as it even though I changed it about two weeks ago. I have tried re-downloading my profile also which is why I think it is still tied to my account.

I've been told gamertags can't be recycled but I know this to be 100% untrue as I can change to a gamertag I had until a couple days ago. They are all free except for "Sadistic Grunt" (which I'm still showing as in party chat)

Basically, is there a way that it can be completely removed from my account so I can use it, or have something done so that I can use it since it is already on my account?

Gamertags to be Recycled 5/18/16!

Yeah, this is just in case you wanted one of the old gamertags...really shouldn't give free gamertag changes because they are recycling gamertags lol

It costs 800 microsoft points

Sign in on to Xbox LIVE gamertag that you want to change.

Go to Social and then select your gamertag.

Select Change Gamertag.

Select Enter New Gamertag.

Enter your old previous gamertag

Nevermind. I finally talked to a knowledgable support agent and found out what was going on.

But the gamertag that I want to change is my old gamertag. I change my old gamertag on 2 August 2020. I used that old gamertag when I create my Xbox account. At that time, the system allow me to use that gamertag. But when I want to change it back, the system don't allow me to use it. Why is this like that?

When a gamertag change is made the old gamertag becomes available immediately.

If you are trying to change the gamertag back to the old one and it is says its not available then its not available.

So the gamertag that you are wanting back is PowerUpVoltage

The problem is this MS made a new policy a couple months ago where any new gamertags including changes in gamertags have a limit of 12 characters.

The old gamertag is 14 characters so this is why it is not available for you to change your gamertag back.
