    Want to change name, says it is taken but it isn't.


    Hello Xbox forums! Anyway, I am trying to change my gamertag to a different name, on the Xbox one. I type in the name I want, and it says it is taken. But when I search for the account, it does not exist! Why does this happen? Thanks in advance.

    Gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live.Spaces aren't recognized either so GamerXEv & Gamer XEv would be the same.

    If it says the tag is taken then that's it,there's nothing you can do to get that tag,you will have to choose another gamertag.

    Same here! I am already trying to change it for about 3 years. I contacted the Xbox Live phone and chat support multiple times, but they couldn't deal with it.

    Support can't see the problem about this tag not be available. All I want is somebody who can tell me if and why it is reserved.

    Sometimes Xbox just wont let you have certain things as your gamer tag, the best thing to do is choose another

    Gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live so while the tag may not show up as used on xbox live it could be in use somewhere else.

    If the system says it's taken then there's nothing you can do to get it.

    If that tag doesn't sign in for 2 years then it will become available.

    Also, I'm not sure what the name is from, but anything that might be connected to something famous like a movie character or actress or musician is usually made not available, no matter what. If it's just a completely made up name by you with no
    other connection to a movie, TV show, musician or song, etc then it might be that it's taken on another Microsoft platform, not Xbox.
    It is, in fact connected to a character.

    • Nickname for Tsumugi Kotobuki, a fictional character of K-On!

    You might try a variation of it, or add something to it.
