Want to change gamertag for the first time. Still wants to charge me for it.

That's my point too. Where was the "choice" for me to make that everyone is talking about here? The system chose a GT for me. If I wasn't even allowed to pick an option, doesn't that mean the system generated it for me? Irrespective of how my gamer tag "looks",
the system assigned it to me.

And you are wrong with the quote that only a certain type of gamer tags are allowed to be changed free. Go to your xbox profile page and try to edit your gamer tag. You will see a prompt that says you are allowed to change it free only once. There is absolutely
no other criteria specified there. For as long as I haven't made any change to what was given to me, I still qualify for a free change.

As pointed out in the article you dont qualify for it as you chose the name even if it was suggested

You don't have the typical system name the system knows if you have a generated name

That MSG you keep quoting is for system picked name which you don't have a choice

 

Icysoulspark I will just chime in with what you have already been told. Your gamer tag IS NOT a system generated tag therefore you have had your choice. When you set up your account for whatever reason this is the gamer tag you typed in. You ARE NOT eligible
for a free change. If it means that much to you just pay the fee and get what you want. You have been told over and over the correct information but for some reason choose not to accept it. It really is time to move on. Happy Gaming!

 

Dude, for the nth time, I never typed in anything when signing up. I never "chose" anything either. This GT was automatically assigned to me at the time of sign up. There was no option to select my GT from available options. You guys keep harping on some
"choice" or "system generated" thing and I keep saying over and over again I was given no such "choice". Moreover, what you are saying contradicts the direct post a little further above regarding the policy. Read it again, aloud this time before replying.

 

I am going to say that in your case Icysoulspark, it depends on how old your game tag is. The generated naming conventions have changed over the years to what they are now.

If as you say, it was system generated when you created the account and I think it was, there used to be a time limit of 30 days for changing the system generated name. This was in place to at least 2014. The help pages regarding name change no longer reference
the 30 day limit as the Terms of Use changed and have changed several times with regard to free or forced name changes.

If your account was created several or more years ago then those rules were applied and you are no longer eligible for a free name change and were not eligible 30 days after the account was initially created regardless of what the TOU say now.

I know you are frustrated with the responses here but everyone here is just another user like yourself and some are not native English speakers, hence spelling and grammar complaints aren't really relevant. Everyone is merely trying to help you understand
what your situation is and why you aren't eligible.

 

No one said anything about people's grammatical expertise or their language skills. I don't know where you got that from.

 

Your last explanation seems plausible, since my account was created back when Xbox One was launched. I had no idea there was a time limit for your first GT change. Nor was I intimated about any such thing during the set up process. I doubt many of us read
the pages and paged of ToS that's put in front of you. I am not trying to blame you or anyone else for this. Its just that the GT change policy on the website is in contrary to the time limit you have mentioned as a part of T&C. It says absolutely nothing
about such a time limit.

 

Pretty sure there was reference to spell check in one of the prior posts here. Sorry if I conflated two different topics.

If you search the forums you can find posts about the 30 day time limit for system generated names into 2013-14. I think that is the case here, as I suggested above.

 

This thread isn't very long. You can easily scan it to find if someone indeed took a jab on grammar and writing skills. Even if someone did, it wasn't me. You might have mixed things up with some other thread. And my understanding of how GT change works
is purely based on what the official website tells me. Either the website is wrong or our understanding of this process is wrong. If someone from Microsoft can clarify, that'll be better.
