    Want an Upgradeable Xbox 1?

There's already custom PC's. But imagine if they allowed it on Xbox 1. Yes Xbox Scorpio comes out later this year. But there are GPU's with above 320GB/s bandwidth, and systems with 16GB RAM and 4Ghz CPU's (with at least 4Ghz clock speed, at least 4 cores
8 threads) and run on an SSD, not an ancient 5400rpm or 7200rpm HDD which looks like some 1970's record player (HDD in a way look like a record player) which HDD's are much slower with booting, loading, and saving; than an SSD, and just specs which would blow
Xbox Scorpio out of the water. And sorry to Goth, but this video in the link of my discussion was right on the Recommended front page of the YouTube App on my Xbox 1, even though I'm not subscribed to this person, his video was entertaining. I know a thread
of whether Microsoft should create an upgradeable Xbox 1 was discussed 2 years ago, but at the time I wasn't for it. I'm still not *quite* for it, as consoles should be standardized. I watched on YouTube how someone water-cooled a PS4. I guess people like
being creative playing around with their devices to see if they can make them better. K, SSD's may not be essential for gaming, but they REALLY CUT DOWN the time it takes to boot, load and save. HDD's can take 2-4 minutes to boot up a PC and everything to
be ready for use and have loaded, on the desktop. It's not due to the CPU/GPU/RAM. Blame it all on HDD because you have to be living in a cave to not know how much considerably slower it is, to an SSD for booting, loading and saving. Regarding the video, I
was quite inspired about it and it was a bit funny. I'm sure Microsoft likes to be creative. They did fork out $2 billion to acquire Minecraft.

    :)

  2. $399.99 CAD for Xbox Slim

unless it has firmware-upgradeable hdmi ports I suggest not getting it. what's the point? if it isn't upgradeable and your 4k TV is, you're going to have problems synching the console and tv at that point.

So the X1 is just a PC but with inferior specs and more restrictions?

So its official then? consoles are just weaker un upgradeable PCs now?

    "Want an upgradeable xbox one?"

No, not from a modern console manufacture of the likes of Sony and MS. Should they ever do upgradeable, they'll no doubt be hoops for consumers to jump.through with corporate strings attached.

  5. When you are spending that much money on an Xbox One, then the guy in the video is right, just buy a PC.

It really boggles my mind that people will go through all that with their console but then when talking about building a PC go "oh it's too difficult."

"I watched on YouTube how someone water-cooled a PS4. I guess people like being creative playing around with their devices to see if they can make them better."

Imma gonna challenge you smileskybird, to define a "better" experience than playing on console. I've NEVER owned a PC and NEVER intend to, but regardless I'm still subscribed to a monthly periodical (ie, magazine or print media) that's called PC POWERPLAY.
Unless I'm mistaken, this mag/rag is available in NZ and it pretty much runs the gamut of things you can plug into a powerpoint. In other words, it's a geek sheet for gamers of all persuasions. Each month, they talk the talk and espouse the benefits of "faster,
harder, better"... but I'm NEVER fazed. Because tech specs are for ROBOTS. If you're a gamer and even halfway invested in a "better" gameplay experience, then you'd ditch the specs and embrace the medium for what it is - a gateway for escapism. Who needs to
be caught up or tied down by NUMBERS? If specs are more important to you than gameplay, then maybe you're playing in the wrong ballpark. Maybe you need to be brushing up on microbiology or some such? Have a nice life.

  7. Define a better experience?

On the set-up side, the console obviously wins. As much as many PC gamers would like to claim that their system of choice is now plug and play, just like a console, there is simply more to do. Microsoft may have really narrowed that gap with Windows 10 but
    it is still there.

However once the systems are set-up, the PC takes the crown. It can do everything a console can do and adds in more, from the ability to tweak games to your liking to having more control options. You can treat a PC just like you would a console, or you can
do more, the options exist even if the one you chose is to have a PC that runs just like a console. You get the same gameplay experience if you want it.

To say that specs are for robots is ridiculous. It's people pushing for better specs that have delivered the Xbox One and soon the Scorpio. People pushing for better specs are what has led to better gameplay experiences. Would you rather be playing The Oregon
Trail as it was back in 1971 or would you rather be riding across the plains in Red Dead: Redemption?

  11. Forgive me for not being clear.

The Scorpio is an upgraded Xbox One, therefore comparisons to other upgradable platforms is a fair thing to do, especially when considering value for money.

I think you missed the part where I said I don't EVER INTEND TO OWN A PC. Diff'rent strokes for different folks, and we've already been down this road before - by which I mean discussing my past CONSOLE history in this forum. Just a refresher: there was
actually a fork in the road, circa 1999, when I could've opted for the PC brigade (ie, when the internet was young), but I steadfastly stood by *ease of use* and decided on the Sega Dreamcast route. Arguably I took the wrong path, but looking back and looking
forward - to Scorpio - I'm still a technophobe; I still value ease of use over higher framerates or resolutions; I still prefer *plug & play* without needing a doctorate in rocket science.

The comment about specs being for "robots" was more of a cheap shot at smileskybird, and I unreservedly APOLOGIZE. Would I rather be playing The Oregon Trail circa 1971 or riding across the plains in Red Dead Redemption? Er, neither. 1971 predates my
interest in CONSOLES and I absolutely detest every little piece of bloated and objectionable character drivel that has ever ushered forth from Rockstar. HORSES FOR COURSES, obvs.

    Want an Upgradeable Xbox 1?

Hello "BluSwirl" and "Goth Vampirella" Want an Upgradeable Xbox 1? :)

My custom desktop had to get serviced for faulty RAM. Since it's still under warranty, repairs and replacement was free. Just waiting for CourierPost to deliver it back which is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday morning). Then I won't be hanging out here
so much and Goth seeing PC...PC...i7...SSD, from me. I've also told the nz company I got it from to upgrade it a little. With winter approaching, I decided to get a LED white light strip for it so that it doesn't look so dark inside (it has a corsair 300r
windowed case), an extra fan for cooling ontop of like the other half dozen fans inside it, and to increase my SSD storage by 1TB with a Samsung EVO 850 which has a 5 year, not 1 year, warranty from Samsung. I play The Sims 4, Planet Coaster, Cities Skylines.
Some popular Youtubers made some very funny commentaries with Bus Simulator 2016. Am considering getting the 2017 version when it comes out next year and do some funny commentary with it. I might trade in my PS4 Pro which I only have 2 games for it, and my
original Xbox 1 (but keep the Kinect) and trade those in for a Scorpio. Yes I have the best of all three worlds, but I don't see PS4 Pro as a necessity, and I rarely play on it, I got hyped because of A World of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XV with higher
visual fidelity since Microsoft will be late with bringing out Xbox Scorpio (lol, it's not even out yet), even though a lot of NZ'rs play PS4. But I need to see reviews of the finished Xbox Scorpio before I even consider it. I kind of like having the latest
stuff, but usually won't go out of my way to get it. Imagine the power boost Xbox 1 would get with an i7-6700k/7700k processor. Especially with simulation games which tend to be CPU intensive rather than just GPU intensive.

Have a nice day, afternoon, evening or weekend Want an Upgradeable Xbox 1? :)

    Hey all,

I've removed the original link because it depicts a modded Xbox One and other things breaking the Code of Conduct, but that shouldn't stop you from talking about the merits of a PC versus the planned Scorpio. I think that's a question that a lot of people
will be asking themselves later this year: whether to go with ease of installation, use and maintenance versus buying gear you can update at your own pace as new games demand it. The wealth of choices available to us means it's a good time to be a gamer, regardless
    of platform.
