    Want a gamer tag that has been inactive for 8 years


    Hi! I wanted to claim a gamer tag for a Mixer channel I want to start but the tag is taken and has been inactive for 8 years. Is there anyway the tag can be claimable at all and if so is there anyone I can message or speak to so I may claim it?

    I understand that gamer tag claims are an iffy subject but I would love if I could contact someone who can potentially work with me.

    Note, I know about the new gamer tag update but I do not want to have numbers at the end of my tag.

    Damn it. The account has been inactive for at least 8 years.

    When does Microsoft deem an account inactive long enough to warrant that "purge" of inactive gamer tags?

    I had this very same situation a while ago and support won't release a gamertag even if it hasn't been used in quite a while.

    Hi Lizard,

    The Xbox portion can be inactive, they must be signing in with the Microsoft account portion as it is still active. This is a common occurrence as gamers move on from gaming to life or whichever they decide. They end up keeping their Microsoft account. As
    personally I have had my Microsoft account longer than an Xbox account. Will have the Microsoft account forever, as use the email for other things other than Xbox. As Smwutches posted if it is not signed into it will be closed. Support does not have the ability
    to unlock or make available gamer tags.

    Hi There,

    Even if a gamertag looks like it might be available, chances are that the person still has used it in the required time period. Best bet is to just watch and wait to see if the person has stopped using it.

    Unfortunately if a tag has an active membership or an account balance they tag won't be released. Best you could do is reach out to support.
