VPN Connection & Usage

Hi to all,

Problem:

I'm currently having a networking issue within my home, whereby we have four Xbox One's. Now the fundamental issue is that port forwarding is only possible for a single IP address, so one of the four Xbox's will have no issues (i.e., Open NAT; No trouble
joining parties or games etc.) however the remainding Xbox's will have limited connectivity (i.e., Strict NAT, difficulty in finding games etc.).

We are able to resolve the matter further by assigning one of the Xbox One's (not the one we have already port forwarded for) into DMZ, however this still means that two Xbox's continue to have poor Xbox Live experiences.

Solutions:

Multiple public IP addresses from ISP - Not a fantastic option. Connection speed is dramatically reduced from getting 95 mbps to 10/12 mbps at an inflated cost.

Multiple ISP connections into the home - Reasonable idea however cost is tremendous, enhancements need to be made to the area's network box out in the street and new lines have to be fed from their into the house (Estimated costs of £465+
per line).

Multiple VPN services - Now I want to make something perfectly clear. I have read the Xbox Live TOS and much of the regulations refer to usage of a VPN to obtain services outside or unavailable from the country of origin.
I have no intention of doing this and will only be using a UK based VPN to obtain different public IP addresses which will then allow ports to be forwarded accordingly and will ensure that each Xbox has good Xbox Live experiences.

I'm uncertain whether using a VPN service that is located in the same country that you live in, still may be against Xbox's Live TOS. Hopefully someone could provide some clarity of that? I appreciate any responses and anyone who has advice or guidence in
resolving this issue by other means.

Can't connect to XBox Live

Hey Christo, I'm afraid that connecting through a hot spot VPN is not recommended for optimal LIVE usage. Have you tried establishing a connection through these channels?

 

How to Setup a VPN on your Xbox Console

There are many benefits to routing your xbox IP through a VPN connection. This ranges from utilizing exclusive American content, to hiding your IP from DDoSers, or even hiding your location from Doxers. This tutorial will show you a loophole that allows you to get around/avoid these hassles. Let us begin.

Prerequisites:

WiFi Connection
Laptop with LAN port
VPN (Virtual Private Network)
Ethernet Cable

VPN's:

IPVanish
PureVPN
ExpressVPN

This tutorial was done using IPvanish.

Setup VPN on Xbox
One of the methods of setting up Xbox One VPN is by tunneling your service via router and then connecting your gaming console and other devices to the router. Note that the setup may vary according to the router you use and the instructions provided by the VPN provider.

- Use the following steps to configure a VPN service on your router:
- You need an Ethernet cable and connect your modem to the WAN port in the router.
- Open your Router’s Control Panel – accessible from your system control panel.
- Go to the ‘Basic Setup’ / ‘Network’ / ‘Basic’ tab in your router control panel (where you can configure WAN or Internet settings).
- Enter the setup details provided by your VPN provider (username, password, gateway, subnet mask, etc.).
- Select the appropriate protocol settings and the change the ‘Connection Type’ based on your router and VPN providers instructions (usually to PPTP, but it depends).
- Select the appropriate DCHP settings depending on the requirements by your VPN provider.
- Click the Apply Settings / Save / Connect button and you are done.

Now you can connect your Xbox to the router either through Wi-Fi or through Ethernet cable and can enjoy using VPN on your Xbox 360 or Xbox One.

 

you can't use port forward or DMZ if you use the systems the same time. You need a router who can handle that and the only option is use UPnP.

As Rozilla already stated:

It is not possible, to use dmz and portforwarding at the same time, even if you may be able to configure both on your router. As soon as a portforwarding is set up, these ports are not longer available for dmz.

So you really need a router which is able to serve all four Xboxes by only UPnp. Best experiences on multiple console support can be found within DD-WRT able routers.

So there is a really good solution possible if you are a little bit tech savvy at all. Set up a DD-WRT router whether on a virtual (Hyper-V) machine or on a small (and even older) PC who has Linux supported hardware.
