Volume option greyed out on settings for controller

for the last 12 months the mic icon has had a line through it. On settings Kinect and devices for the controller the volume button is greyed out. I have bought 3 new sets of headphones My little boy and myself are very frustrated at this. Any advice
please?

Not compatible is bs.. both my head sets were working fine with my controller up until sometime mid January.. now no matter what i do nothing is recognized. no matter what kind of 3rd party headset. Ive tried a bunch.. went through all the unhelpful help
pages. Controller is brand new.. not 3 months old. It was working then im assuming an update because the next night it wasnt. Super frustrating. How about you give me my money back so i can buy the same games on a PS that actually works. There is power on
the audio jack.. you can hear the pop when you unplug the headphones.. i suspect a controller driver issue on the xbox. Need to stop messing around and push an update to fix it before we all start giving sony our money. And a bunch of us actually work in software
development so dont give us we dont know when we can patch it.. you broke it.. the entire push was a reversion of functionality.. revert the last update and go do your jobs this next sprint

Hey there Hibbyboy!

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this issue. I would say that if you have already tried the steps outlined in

Xbox One Chat Headset troubleshooting, that you might have to get a headset adapter.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of headsets have you tried?

Currently Microsoft and Xbox have identified a known issue with recognizing third party headsets. It seems that using a
headset adapter is the current workaround suggestion for this issue until they patch this with a future update.

I have the same issue. Got myself the adaptor and still doesn't work. tried factory reset and all other troulebshooting recommendations. Why is it that Xbox no longer allow third party headsets when all other consoles do?

Its never been an issue before with Xbox but now it is? So frustrating and makes me want to go back to PS in all honesty.
