  1. Volume greyed out on controller settings - mic / headphones not working

My sons headphones and mic have stopped working and the microphone icon is always crossed out. The headphones have been checked on other devices and work. I have seen forums saying to go into settings and kinect & devices and select the volume part, but
it is greyed out. Any suggestions.

    :)

If you're having trouble using the mic in chat please try these steps to see if one of them helps.

    1. Mute then unmute other people in your party
    2. Have other people in the party mute than unmute you
    3. Power cycle the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down.
    4. Delete your gamertag, powercycle the console again then redownload your gamertag

If you still have trouble with the headset you can try the steps at this link

I also wanted to mention that perhaps it is an issue with the jack itself. You could try getting a headset adapter for the controller. I use one exclusively and have never had an issue as the adapter bypasses the jack completely.

Game audio through headset without adapter

When headphones are plugged into the controller, there should be an option to adjust the "headset volume" (which is the game volume through your headphones).

When headphones are plugged into the controller...

    • Double-tap the Xbox Guide button.
    • Go down to the "Settings" icon (picture of a cogwheel).
    • You should see a bunch of volume slider settings underneath the "All Settings" option.
      • Headset mic (on/off switch)
      • Headset Volume (slider)
      • Headset Chat Mixer (slider)
      • Mic Monitoring (slider)
    • Adjust "Headset Volume" to the desired volume level.
If you don't see all those volume options, your Xbox might need a simple
    power cycle
. Then you can try the steps above again.

The game audio through the controller works just fine with my pair of Bose QuietComfort 25 (QC25) headphones.

    Hopefully this helps!

    The newer controller

so far, every pair of headphones i have plugged into the controller have allowed mic monitoring, and you can directly control the mic monitoring volume via the side menu.

Audio does not work in control of xbox one s

I have the same problem. None of the solutions xbox support have told me work. I have tried everything! There is a problem in the xbox itself. Controllers, headset and mic all work. If you go look up your controller..the volume is greyed out and will not
    let you adjust.

It really sucks not be be able to game chat.
