Yes, if your controller received a higher voltage that the one stated in the device specifications the extra voltage/energy can damage it.

You mentioned controller. Should it be console?

There were times when my home voltage fluctuated a lot while my console was on. Sometimes, my house would receive higher voltage. Your point made sense.

If the lightning entered the electrical in your house then it's highly likely it exited through the ground wiring. Don't know if you have already but you should have all the electrical in your house checked. Such a large voltage would probably overload all
the wiring.

That is strange, do you use some kind of voltage regulator in your house? (like the ones to control lamp brightness)

I understand, as I said it may be a voltage problem, so I would recommend you to test the console in another possible location, as it is very strange for the console to work in your house normally and in this specific location not, so what I can suggest you to do is test in another house or location if possible.
