Sword, I don't have enough money to buy a mobile device to use Smartglass and my PC is across the house. I'm not going to run laps back and forth just to send messages to my friends. I would welcome voice messages - it enables me to send funny messages to
friends, like my impressions, that make them laugh and smile. Voice messages... :)

Besides, so much is lost in translation with text messages. With voice messages, it becomes more personable and in some cases, emotional. Voice messages... ;)

@briandiesel Maybe you should make use of all Xbox features. I haven't typed a single message on Xbox with the controller since Smartglass came out. So much faster. Not to mention you can barely check a voice message in between rounds or kills. You can quickly
skim over a text message though and determine if its worth a response now or later.

The only thing voice messages were good for was checking to see if your mic was bugging or was it the other person.

  3. God, voice messages were so awful and awkward. If I ever got one, I straight up deleted it.

You guys never got any voice messages from me then... Voice messages... :p

I disagree with most of you. Sure, it takes longer on the receiving end of voice messages, but it was much faster on the sending end than having to type an entire message out on the Xbox 360 (granted I haven't tried it on Xbox One's SmartGlass yet because
it's simply not an available option for me). As for having time to listen to them in-between matches, I think that's dependent on the individual games. For example, Titanfall usually gives you over a minute in between matches, which is more than enough time
to listen to a voice message. Also just to reiterate what I said earlier, a lot gets lost in translation with typed messages - it's not as personable and often lacks emotion, which can help convey a message in a certain way that you're trying to send.

I didn't mean in between matches. I said "in between rounds" like when you switch sides in Capture a The Flag or Last Titan standing. Also there should be no reason people are trying to convey emotion over Xbox.

We are free to convey emotion on xbox its not just adults who are on here but kids as well. There are many who want voice messages cuz its an XBOX feature TXT only is boring.

Personally I'm glad there aren't any voice messages - the only time they got used was when I got abusive voice messages from some idiot that didn't like the way I gamed.

Anyway - surely you can and should use Skype to send voice messages? At least then you can listen to them anywhere - whereas (if I recall) the Xbox voice messages could only be listened to on the Xbox?

Skype isn't used for recorded voice messages, but for actual, real-time live video feeds. Also, in order to get Skype to work, I would have to divulge my email address to other gamers and that is something that I'm not willing to do.

On Xbox 360 you can picture message, voice message, and text message. Xbox needs to appeal to the younger audience than just the older. I've only had a very few abusive voice messages. And it's a way to authenticate who sent the message. With txts it could
of been done by their sister/brother/parents/cousins/friends but with voice you can tell for sure. I don't mind voice messages can only be listened to on your console. Most of the peps who like it don't mind it probably don't hang out on this forum. The Skype
app on Xbox 1 doesn't support voice messages because "this version of Skype does not support that yet".

Who here likes checking their phone and on their answer phone there's a voice message? You can also send both a text and voice message in the same message on 360. I use my Microsoft account for Skype. I actually agree with Geek on this. It IS an Xbox feature
and it should be brought to Xbox 1. Even if voice is impossible between 360 and 1 (i.e. party chat is), voice messages should be interchangeable between every Xbox 1 console.

I don't see the problem in having it, i ain't no fan of voice messages, never sent one but alot of my friends did because if we're already on the xbox then i don't see why i should have to go pick up another device to do something the console is more than
capable of, most of the time i didn't listen just the ones off my friends list, because the rest were usually clan invites or quick scope lobby messages.

That doesn't mean i want to see people who genuinely use it denied the ability to do so, it was a basic feature that was used and good for communication, i know one of my friends specifically used voice because his English was terrible and he knew it so rather
than have us spend 3 hours decoding his text he'd send a quick voice when he couldn't join the party etc.

Yes there are those of us who are denied the ability for voice messages. Me and my friends which include a full 360 friends list genuinely use voice messaging and txt messaging. On Xbox 1's Skype app you CANT open voice messages because all you get is "this
version of Skype doesn't support that yet" an Xbox 360 friend sent me one, and the only reason why I have Skype is because of Xbox 1. Just Like to video chat on 360 you need Video Kinect, to video chat on Xbox 1 you need the Skype app. It is an Xbox feature
which tonnes of peps use on Xbox 360 so they should make Voice Messaging interchangeable between at least all Xbox 1 consoles which use Xbox Live.

@Smileskybird - Fair enough - looks like MS need to get their X1 Skype app sorted, but don't think they should also add voice messages to X1 - they just need to sort out Skype and make it more "embedded" into the X1 experience. That's my take on it anyway
    - I'm sure some will disagree.

Either way - MS need to enable the feature somehow (I'd prefer Skype - that way only people who really know me and not just my Gamertag would be able to voice message me).

  15. I prefer a typed message because if I'm in a chat party with a friend as we play a game, listening to it is disruptive because I have to tell my friend to hold on a minute while I go listen to it, otherwise, I just ignore it which happens most the time.

A typed message is nice because I can read it and it doesn't interfere with my current conversation.

PET PEEVE: Some people will answer a simple yes or no question using a voice message.

ANOTHER PET PEEVE: I'm playing a game, alone. I get a voice message. I decide to listen to it, so I have to get up, get my head set, plug it in and listen to my message which sometimes is a simple "Hey." : /
