Voice messages...

If they add voice messaging to xbox one I hope they have a switch in the system menu to completely opt out....I don't want to send or receive them.

Voice Messages. How this has slipped through the cracks is beyond me. I have a Kinect right in front of me. Sending voice messages would save a shit ton of time when messaging.

 

Any word on a May update?

I'd also like to add that BC probably won't happen because the tech between the 360 & the One aren't compatible, according to MS.

 

Or you could educate your 360 friends that voice messages don't work on X1.

 

It does seem exceedingly dumb that there is a communication barrier between the 360 and X1. The hell? Why?!

 

You should be able to at least voice message between other Xbox 1 consoles. It's a loved "Xbox" feature. The fact that 360 has it and it doesn't exist on 1 makes 1 kind of backward. It's what kids and adults do on Xbox and its a way to authenticate who sent
the message. Miley Cyrus 7 things I like about you quote "if you mean it I'll believe it if you TEXT it I'll delete it". I know 360 and 1 have different hardware architecture but Microsoft has at least some integration with 360 through Xbox Live like friends
list txt messaging. And if there's one company that can push the limits on hardware it's Microsoft they know how to write software/code.

At least enable it for use between other Xbox 1 consoles (doesn't have to be to 360 as well). That way Xbox 1 can have their own voice messaging system and Xbox 360 because of the hardware, has their own voice messaging system which it already does. Skype
app doesn't support voice messages as "this version doesn't support that yet" received a voice message from a friend.

Or is the Windows 8 styled OS or the hardware too strict to not allow voice messaging between even only other Xbox 1 consoles?

Voice messages, like online alerts, is another annoying feature I'd rather not see return. If you want to talk to me then send a party invite.

 

I'd much rather someone send me a voice message than invite me into a party. Unless it's a good friend, I'm completely ignoring their invite.

 

I never get a voice message anyway so whenever they choose to put it on the Xbox ONE is ok with me no rush

The only party invites I bother with are the ones that come with a game invite [that I want to play].

When I turn on my console, I'm either getting ready to watch a video (in which case I don't want bothered) or I'm getting ready to play a game. When I'm playing a game I want... need... to be able to focus on what I'm
doing. Nothing's more annoying and distracting than being in a party that has 8 people and only a few of them are actually playing the same game, while others are just hanging out. Or worse, they're playing a different game. Talk about a confusing mess of
cross chatter. No thanks.

I have nothing against parties, per se. But if I'm in a party, I'm in a game. If I'm in a game, I'm sure not leaving that party to have a [non related] conversation in another. Voice messages solved this issue for me.
I'd love to have them back.

 

@ Burst Axe, that's silly thinking. If you are not online and your friend wants to send you a message, it is so much easier than typing it out with the controller. Sometimes I like to send voice messages without having an actual conversation in party chat.

 

The initial reason why you couldn't party chat or send voice messages between the 360 and the One, is because the One uses a higher quality codec for voice communications (Skype codec if I remember correctly). There are plenty of machines out there that
are on different architectures that can communicate over skype with each other, with no issues whatsoever. Why can't the 360 not get an updated voice codec to use in it??

 

I'm so happy they did away with voice messages. The only ones I ever got were from people playing crappy music in to their mic or racist tweens mad because I killed them too much in Call of Duty. Granted, I don't join the vast majority party invites I get.
Unless it's from a good friend. Send me a message if you want to tell/ask me something. It's not like you need to type it out on your console. Go through xbox.com or use smartglass like I do.
