    @tohellnbak

    No I did a buy a noise cancelling mic for my One but as has been previously stated I don't think the expectation for one to work is out of line.

    Every single text on my phone is done via voice commands and I use the built in mic on my laptop for voice recognition software so for those of us that have no desire to jump around in front our TV playing bad Kinect games I think a small mic would be a
    nice accessory considering the same tech is used elsewhere.

    I like being crazy sometimes and jumping around in front of my HDTV ^u^

    I do it for Zoo Tycoon and Kinect Sports Rivals I love the jet boating in that. But I'm not into fitness games. I'd rather go swimming or play outside or jog rather than try pilates or these adults with big mussels doing goofy moves.

    If there's one company that pushes the limits of hardware, it's Microsoft. Who knows, they might.... release an Update some day where you can use your mic for voice commands. But Kinect has the processing power and is directly built for that feature. With
    a mic, you just talk into it so others hear you. My Samsung S5 accepts voice commands does a good job of it (google voice commands and s voice or something). But then again, it's not like basic mics have an intel core i7 processor in them Voice commands with external mic? :)

    in the future when software on xbox one gets one demanding, the kinect usage isn't going to impact on that because the processing is done within kinect, so while a standand mic might be a simple option now, I expect MS had a longer term vision for it.

    Correct the last Kinect was a flop as it only sold 24 million units with Kinect Adventures being the highest selling 360 game ever. Huge failure.

    With the recent updates for Xbox One, all of the most important features are now a few button presses away. So you could essentially live without the Kinect and save yourself a hundred dollars or two.

    Voice commands with external mic?

    If you want voice commands for the One I think you'll need the Kinect. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it does do a little of the voice recognition work on it's own. I'm sure it would be possible for them to add support for voice commands without it from
    the headset, but since there is no first party wireless headset means the controller is already in your hands. So I don't think there is a lot of demand especially since the console interface has been updated to work better with the Kinectless Xbox One setups
    using the controller only.

    Short of it is unless you plan on playing games that use the motion tracking or want a camera for Skype or Twitch you really don't need it. I do like it though for automatically signing in, gesture support for the home screen, and voice for videos pause,
    play, and volume control without the controller.
