Voice Commands is AWESOME!!!

...and yes, I know it's not grammatically correct - that's not the point.

So late last night, my brother and I were watching the latest episode of Arrow (The Man Under the Hood) through his profile while using the Hulu Plus app on the Xbox One since we're big fans of the show. After every episode we have a tendency to look up
episode reviews online through IGN to see if there were any DC universe Easter eggs we may have missed during the episode (since it's chock full of them like the low-key appearance of Killer Frost in the above-mentioned episode). When we do this we usually
do it from either his or my computer. Well, this week, I decided to to put the Xbox One's voice commands through their paces and I gotta say, it did not disappoint.

I started the Internet Explorer app on the Xbox One using the voice command, "Xbox go to Internet Explorer" and waited for it to load. Once it was up and running, I used the voice command "Xbox select - browse to IGN" so it could load the website. Once there,
I was able to give the command, "Xbox select - click on TV" so it could follow a link from the main IGN page to their TV show section. Once there, I just used the "scroll down" command until I found the link to the episode review I was looking for (since I
knew from experience that it would be there). I again used the "click on" command to select the link for the review. This particular command was interesting as the link was called "Arrow: The Man Under the Hood Review" which meant I had to give the voice command,
"Xbox select - click on Arrow: The Man Under the Hood Review" - it actually worked without a hitch! From there I could simply read the article by using the "scroll down" command. When I was done, I was able to use the commands, "Xbox go home" and Xbox show
menu - quit" to end the session.

So, although it may not be the fastest way to do things, I found it a lot of fun knowing that I could browse the Internet until I found exactly what I was looking for using nothing but my voice from beginning to end without ever having to pick up a controller.
I knew the voice commands were good, but I had no idea I could do this much with them. Also, did I forget to mention I was in the kitchen the entire time I was doing this making a sandwich? Yeah, I was.

So, I'll say it again: Voice commands is AWESOME!!!

Is Kinect dead?

Kinect is awesome for voice commands.

It always understand me no matter if I talk normal or mumble lol

I want more voice command options.

Yes it is. If only my tv would turn off with voice command. Other than that, I have no complaints.

 

"Xbox turn off - yes" works for me most of the time. It's actually one of the more responsive commands I've had on the console except for that one time after one of the preview betas where the "yes" portion completely and utterly failed to work. :|

 

I agree it's working very well. Personally, I just use Bing as it seems quicker than opening Internet Explorer directly. Eg. Xbox Bing, Arrow: The Man Under the Hood Review, Show Web Results. What would be awesome now if we can enter data into fields
via voice (login details, searches etc...)

 

The voice commands doesn't really work for me, don't know if it's a faulty kinect or something.

Now if they could add what hellfire said and then even expand on that ..Like let us reply to post like this just by voice ..Type what we say ,,make it happen MS

 

What if I wanted to look up the medical term pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovol? What then? Am I supposed to try to pronounce it? huh??!!!

In all seriousness though, it seems like browsing the net on a pc would be a thousand times more efficient.

@BizarroMantis - Auto Suggest Also, yes the PC is more effiecient for every day use, but if you think about it a PC doesn't come close for quick tasks such as looking up a youtube video or achievement...

Get up off Xbox, turn on PC, login, open browser, search video, watch, go back to Xbox 10 mins later.

As opposed to: Xbox Snap Youtube, or Xbox Bing - example achievement - open web results.

The way I see it is I use a PC, tablet and phone for browsing the internet, so having that ability on Xbox is just another way to streamline access.

 

The Kinect has made my experience that little bit better.

 

@Murderincorp, do you have your console synced to your tv so that you can turn both off? Or you do already but just doesn't seem to work?

 

Voice commands are cool. I don't use them too much myself unless its for in game commands but I do like them. Other than that I don't tend to make much use of it. I just hit my laptop if I need to.
