Voice chat not working for me

Basically I can hear my friends and they can't hear me. Worked fine before but today it's just not. I'm not muted, I have checked all of the settings - in fact, my microphone is greyed out as is my icon. I can't unmute or mute myself. Don't have a **** clue
what's wrong, headphones worked fine in whatsapp calls but just xbox is making them spaz out, which makes me think it's the app.

Did I click some thing that muted me permanently? Have quit and rejoined several parties, left it for a few hours, checked wifi. Nothing seems to be working. My friends did not mute me, by the way. I am quite desperate for answers before I throw my laptop
out the window. Thanks.

The headphone might not be working with the xbox ?

Are them compatible ?

I would check additional settings in your computer and try other programs that require a microphone. If the mic does not work on anything then there is a problem with the mic.

Proximity voice chat doesn't work in Free Mode, but it works for me and friends in Deathmatch.

Mine does the same thing. I have tried everything to fix this. I even went out and bought a turtle beach headset to see if that would work.
