Vizio TV model VX37L cuts off the edges of the video

I have the same problem. Some games have an option to shrink the screen size, but most don't. The dashboard needs an option to change screen size. Because I can't do it manually on my tv.

I have a Vizio VX37L. I'll try resetting the TV now.

Go into your TV settings and disable any options listed under the Advanced Video Settings, then power the TV off and on again and see if the flashing still occurs. Some advanced
settings can cause this flashing black screen on not only the Vizio Tv's but also other makes and models.

Unfortunately Saphris, unless your using a TV that is a fixed-pixel display like a flat-panel widescreen LCD, LED LCD, or plasma HDTV, you will always get what's called OVERSCAN.

What Overscan is, is that its an aspect ratio (picture size) term that applies to how broadcasting systems work (like you're Cable set-top box, or Antenna TV service).

It occurs when the TV isn't receiving a defined and detailed resolution (like 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p). It was mainly used as a way to prevent black borders from showing up from the channel provider's camera to your TV at home.

Since displays today are mostly made as digital flat-panel TV's as Rear-projection widescreen TV's and CRT tube TV's have all depreciated, the need for this "Overscan" is unnecessary anymore, though it is still held for situations where you don't have access
to High Definition content.

You're TV is not a digital "Smart" TV. its not "Smart" in the way that it doesn't have any method of knowing how to shape the incoming picture to you're TV. CRT's are analog and do not have pixel. they instead have "lines" that are drawn to by one or more
color guns that have individual light pointing to each line.

A digital display has what's called an EDID chip and in that EDID chip, information pertaining to what specific resolutions and refresh rates (like 50 hertz/hz, 60 hertz/hz) the widescreen HDTV supports. That's why widescreen TV's have an aspect ratio known
as "just scan" , 1:1 Pixel ratio, or Full mode. These will show the ENTIRE picture, Pixel for Pixel because it knows what its receiving through you're cables.

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cables will be the best at getting to show the full picture because its a PURE digital cable for your Digital Display. It is a "smart" cable because it was derived from the cable we use for computer monitors. DVI
(Digital Video Interface). It has the ability to be sent the smartest most specific resolution and refresh rate through the cable from your HDMI capable device such as the XBOX 360.

In your case, analog cables are ones like component (Red Green Blue cables),
Composite (Which is your Yellow cable, the lowest quality of all analog cables), S-video (a step up from Composite, but worse than component), and VGA (the connector you use on older big fat computer CRT monitors).

I know this was A LOT to read, but for future viewers, this is the reason for overscan. So for you Saphris, you will NOT be able to get the full picture unless you use an HDTV and an HD cable.
