Visiting another country...best way to bring Xbox along?

Not really sure if this is the best forum for this question, but I figured I'd give it a go.

Anyway, I'm currently in the US, and will be visiting Australia for the next 6 or 7 months. I'd really like to bring my 360 with me, but am unsure of the best way to go about doing this. Does anyone know if it's possible to bring the system with me onboard
the plane in a carry on bag? I don't want airport security thinking it's some sort of IED or anything...and I certainly wouldn't consider putting it in checked baggage.

I suppose my only other option would be to ship it via FedEx or UPS or something similar. Anyone have any experience with a similar situation to this? Would love to hear any advice you might have.

    Cheers!

    :)

Are Xbox 360 hard drives country specific?

    Hi,

I have a friend visiting me in US from Germany. She wants to buy an XBOX 250GB harddrive here (US) and bring it home to Germany for her Xbox.

Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

I assume hard drives don't differ by country, but perhaps there's some firmware or content issue.

    Anyone have any experience?

    Please advise.

XBOX 360 Error when trying to download Dead Rising DLC

Eu region doesn't count as regions have different laws per country not by continent

When you are visiting another land you have to abide by their laws

As you cannot legally ger the game in Germany the only way is to import the codes or disk which doesn't allow you to download the dlc due to the ban

Visiting another country...best way to bring Xbox along?

Just had a thought...what if I were to buy a 360 there and just bring my hard drive with me? I have an older (Arcade) 360...I wonder how difficult it would be to find one of those in Aus when I arrive.

Then I guess I'd have to do a license transfer to the new console...wonder how that would work out, what with switching regions and all. Lots to think about... :S

  5. I may be wrong but i think australia would run on a different power system too, your console would need a converter of some kind.

I can`t imagine you would be allowed it as a carry on, on any flight.

Your best bet would be to buy one there, do a license transfer and re-download what you need.

You could put all your game saves on a flashdrive.

At the end of your trip you can always sell it on and get some of your money back.

Did a little research online...looks like USPS is the best (cheapest) method if I decide to ship it. Looks like I can do it for about 80 to 90 bucks. Both FedEx and UPS gave me online quotes in the 250 dollar region (!)

Seems like the cheapest solution would be to just buy a 360 when I get there (assuming I can get my hands on an older one that's compatible with my hard drive), and then sell it when I leave.

Not convinced that there won't be any issues with license transfers or from switching regions though.

Hi Owen...thanks for the reply. I've got a voltage converter and power adapter, so plugging it in and having it work shouldn't be a problem. Checking with the TSA website, they say "full-size video game consoles" ARE allowed in either checked or carry-on
luggage, but for obvious reasons they recommend carry-on.

Only catch is that they need to be completely removed from their carrying cases for x-ray screening (much like a laptop). But...they also say that even though an item may generally be admitted, if it looks suspicious or sets off any alarms, they can refuse
it. The ultimate decision rests with the TSA whether or not to allow it.

So...basically if some agent thinks something about it doesn't look quite right, I'm out of luck and either have to toss my console in the trash or go through the hassle of rescheduling my flight while I make other arrangements. Neither of which are acceptable
    options.

Looks like buying one there and then selling it is probably going to be the best course of action, I think.
