Probably as good a place to ask as any but have any of you peeps had issues with Virgin cutting out / down time?

Reason I ask is because i've been toying with the idea of switching to Virgin from BT Infinity purely as I can just get the internet package and not be forced into paying for a landline / phone that I never use (faster BB for less money ... no brainer really)

I mentioned it to a bloke at work in passing and he said he'd been with Virgin for a couple years and the service was a bit spotty at times so he recently got rid. Has anyone else had similar issues with them or can I just chalk off to him being unlucky?

  3. The only time ive had any downtime was when they were working on the network near to my home and didnt inform me. Got a free months ervice out of it so any time it goes down now for over an hour im on the phone. Get a minimum of £5 credit to my bill everytime
    it is down

Nice one, that's exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for. I've no real complaints about BT but the whole forced land line issue has been an unneeded drain on my resources over the years

Maybe I'm not as clued up as I should be but every time I get a bill off BT it might as well be written in Japanese for the amount of sense it makes. Ten pages of amounts being added and subtracted and at the end I find I'm credit by a really odd amount?!

Funnily enough I've had a few issues over the last couple of days with my connection dropping out - had a VM engineer out yesterday and they've given me the new Superhub and manually configured all my settings etc, and all seems good now : )

Now im on 120meg going to 152meg in aug

Not to bad in my book

Oh and as for down time ive had the enginers out about 5 times in 9 years

Pretty good the tv service on the other had was so bad that i cancelled it and got sky

    in the first year

but kept the broadband as there speed's are so much quicker than sky in my area.

i would recommend there broadband but not the tv.

and the customer support sucks big time

  10. Yeah, it's very rare that my BB goes down with virgin. When it has done I think the longest it's taken to get up and running again has been 90mins.

Yep, the broadband is second to none but the tv is garbage. I hate having to pay for my landline which I never use but every time I ring up to complain they make out my landline keeps costs down and if I remove it the price I pay each month will go up! Genuinely
think I'm being had off every month I see my bill! :-(

Cheers guys. Due to the nature of the product some downtime is always to be expected but it's good to hear that the only time it seems to go down is when they're actually performing maintenance / improving the service. As for getting 120MB for the price
of 2MB it's a nice touch that they reward long standing customers like this as i'm fairly sure BT would hike their price to match the speed increase if they operated a similar upgrade

Think I'll get those wheels in motion ...

    Virgin Media upgrade

I currently have a 100Mb Virgin media connection and a 80Mb BT connection. An when it comes to online gaming Virginmedia is useless, it has crazy jitter, woeful upload jitter.

If you're a gamer and you can get BT Infinity GET IT. I can get an average 20 kills 5 deaths on my BT connection and I can kill easily, if I go to my Virginmedia connection I just cannot get a decent score, it feels like I'm being shot round corners and
it seems to take 6 million bullets to kill anyone (an even then they turn round an kill me)

BT Infinity for gaming in my opinion.

Virginmedias network is now 30 years old, BT Infinity is a maximum 4 years old.

Hmmm, that sounds similar to what my mate was saying happened with his. Was this with every game you played or just selected ones? If it happened with EA games then no surprises there I guess

I already have BT Infinity and like you say it's decent ... I'm just a bit fed up of getting fleeced for a landline I never use and spotted that Virgin do an 'internet only' package

  15. In all my years with VM (going back to cable and wireless and ntl) I've not experienced any of this "jitter".... must be just certain areas or setups.
