I don't get it

Just found out earlier that i am getting a FREE upgrade to 60 meg from Virgin Media

 

Do you use ADSL, VDSL or Fibre Optic Broadband for Xbox 1?

I use Virgin Media in the UK, they was the first company to use Fibre Optic iv just had a free upgrade to 100megs but i only get 6megs upload.

 

Given the increasing size of downloads, this'll be a nice little bonus. Mines going from 20mb to 50, which is most welcome : )

 

Yeah, they're upping mine to 152mb in June some time.

Mind you, once you reach a certain speed there's very little noticeable difference, especially with things like Xbox Live and PSN which cap the speed you can download at.

What's the cap you can download at?

At the moment we have roughly 77mb down, 17mb up. We've been told by BT that we can upgrade in our area soon and get "up to" 120mb, unless it's at no extra charge I won't bother, what we have now is more than enough for our needs.

 

Not a clue tbh Lofty, but when you look at the file size of stuff and see how long it takes to bring down it's clearly being regulated.

 

Having said that, when you turn off your console mid download it does seem to finish quicker, so maybe part of your bandwidth is being reserved for other online functions while the console is "active".

It's something I've always wanted to know.

Admittedly, with this new gen of consoles, PSN seems to be less of a culprit...

 

I suppose it also depends where the servers that store digital downloads are based.

August for me 60 - 100 ta very much.

 

Mine is also going from 120mb to 152mb in July.

 

I just got 7MB down the other day and I'm pleased with that! Can't imagine having 100+MB downloads that would be insane

 

Going from 20mb to 50mb sometime between May/July.

 

I remember the doubled mine from 30mb to 60mb during their 'free' upgrades a couple of years ago. Funny how they put the prices up a couple of months later so mine went back to 30mb as there was no notable difference. My Virgin bill increased by £7 in February
(again). VIRGIN DON'T DO FREE.

 

Yes they shoved mine up by £7 as well, not happy, soon as my contract with them is up I'm off!
