view and menu buttons will not open the 360 guide on day one xbox one

My brother picked up a day one xbox one from a co-worker the other day. He decided to buy borderlands two so we could play co op together since he missed the free download. This xbox was literally never used by his co worker. My brother sat through 5
hours of updates before he could play. We tried to play Borderlands 2 the following day but the 360 guide would not open after pushing the view and menu buttons together on his console. It simply acted as if he was pushing only one. We live together so
I made sure he didn't misunderstand me and push the wrong buttons. I also tried using my own controller to see if it would work. Same results, it behaved as if only the view button was being pressed. I tried factory reset, made sure he had all updates and
spent about an hour with support to try and figure out this issue. Has anybody else had this problem when trying to invite friends on a back compatible game? It's obviously not under warranty because of its age and the game store will only give $50 for the
console which would leave him out $100. A solution or workaround would be great.

Hold the two small buttons (menu and view) on the controller to open the 360 guide menu and sign in there.

 

I changed my gamertag on Xbox One

Did you re-download your profile on the Xbox 360? Launch any BC title while signed into the Xbox One and open the 360 Guide (menu and view buttons at the same time) and select download profile.

When you say it was only acting like one button was pressed, which button was that? Have you tried holding the view button down first and then pressing menu? Does it happen in all games or just in Borderlands 2? Is the controller wirelessly connected or
wired in via a USB cable?

It mostly acts as though only the view button is being pressed. I have tried holding one then pushing the other. I've also tried using my controller which I know works. Tried both wireless and usb. And it does this with borderlands 1 & 2, and also with
another game he was trying to play with a friend but I don't remember what he was trying to play, I'll have to wait for him to get off work to ask him and I'll also ask him to check if it does the same with his other 360 games.
