Video streamed/cast to Xbox One is far too dark

That is, it lacks brightness. Playing the video in VLC player in my Windows 10 machine displays the video perfectly. Playing the video in Movies & TV on my PC results in a slightly darker image (though still very much watchable), but no audio. Casting
the video to my Xbox One (which plays in the Movies & TV app on the Xbox) results in a
very dark display (like the brightness is turned way down), but the audio is fine.

The movie is in MKV format, which I realize causes problems with Microsoft apps because Microsoft can't seem to keep its codecs straight. However, this has to be a new problem, because I previously cast this exact same file to my Xbox without issue. At
the time, though, I was not using the new Xbox Preview Dashboard, as I am now (the Windows 10 preview update).

This probably wouldn't be an issue if the associated codecs were actually supported in Microsoft apps; unfortunately, much of the time, a third-party app is required to play MKV files, because even though they've been around forever and are used quite commonly,
Microsoft apparently doesn't want to support those codecs.

    :)

Streaming video from mobile to xbox one

So I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and you can play videos and hit the cast button and select xbox one as an option and stream them there. I have done this before with a video I took on the phone and it has worked; however, I tried to play a different video file, and .mp4, and when I chose the xbox one from the cast button, nothing happens, the video just continues playing on the phone. I do it while having the xbox video app open btw. So does the xbox not play .mp4? I know there are other options to stream, but this would be extremely convenient if it works.

Well, I apparently can't edit my post anymore, so I have to comment to amend/add something:

I actually didn't cast this to my Xbox before without issue. What I did - and what I am doing now - is hooking up an external HD to the Xbox with the file on it. The Xbox then uses Media Player, rather than Movies & TV, to play the video - and it works
perfectly. Audio is fine, and the picture looks perfect.

So, yeah. It's either the process of casting from Windows to Xbox, or the new and totally unnecessary Movies & TV app, that is messing up the display while attempting to cast the video from PC to Xbox.

Xbox Video movies come in way too dark.

+1 Same issue here. I am not running HDMI as I have an older xbox, DVDs, movie TRAILERS, TV, everything else plays fine. The Xbox Video Stream is way too dark. Makes horror movies or movies shot in the dark, un-watchable.

Anyone have suggestions? Is the the composite connections? Why do the trailers look fine and bright and not the stream?

BTW-it is streaming in full HD

    Worst Call of Duty ever.

Go into options on MW3 and fiddle around with the slider in video settings. Maybe the slider is too far to the left making it really dark.

Same issue here. The dark parts of Brave are unmatchable. Same movie streams fine on my surface RT, where the dark parts don't even appear dark. I use Netflix and Hulu a lot on that same console and TV, and nothing, not even dark stuff like X-files, is unmatchable
like dark streaming Xbox video. I'm on composite RGB cables on an LCD.

Video signal cutting in and out

I have the same problem. I just purchased a Xbox One S the video goes out for a second or two while anything is done movies, games or stream/cast etc. My TV is a M70-D3, when I stream straight to the TV it works without an issue. I just purchased a Samsung
UBD-K8500 to help test this, streaming, playing 4k or even 4k hdr media works no issue at all. Switch cables / or go back to the xbox and guess what-my video starts to blink every few minutes. Really looks to be a One S issue.
