  1. Video Quality.

    Hi Guys,

New to the Xbox forums so apologies if this is posted in the wrong place!

A little bit of background: I used to play my xbox 360 on a 20" Samsung monitor with a VGA connection and external Audio, I found the picture quality to be excellent especially on Battlefield 3 with everything looking crisp and smooth frame rates.

In preparation for buying an xbox one I bought a new Samsung 40" HD smart TV, thinking this would go well with the Xbox one.

I played for the first time last night and was rather disappointed with the video quality, the textures seem to switch between being clear and fuzzy and seem to flicker somewhat, this has made me think that maybe buying a TV was a mistake and I should have
stuck with a trusty PC monitor.

My internet connection isnt amazing, but played all my xbox 360 games on xbox live perfectly, does internet connection even have anything to do with video quality when playing battlefield 4 online as the single player campaign video quality seems to be a
    lot better?

Overall question, are smaller monitors more suited to console gaming compared with larger HD TV's? Maybe im just too used to a smaller screen but the quality of the video I experienced while playing didnt seem to be anywhere near as good.

    thanks in advance.

    Jazzy.

    :)

your using a hdmi cable, have you tried adjusting the settings to game and take down the sharpness a little.

If you go to "Settings" you might want to make sure that you've got your ONE configured to display at the best resolution for your Telly.

You should be able to dislpay in at least 1080p but some Samsungs will automatically upgrade your image to a higher resolution than that.

If you're playing "Battlefield 4" and thinking it doesn't look so hot, try the Single Player for a little bit. The graphics are a lot sharper in this because it's not having to manage a 32 vs 32 MP battle.

It's easy to psych yourself out over your television.

Some people are convinced their naked eye can spot the difference betwen 1080i and 1080p or 30FPS and 60FPS when the truth is "The internet told you what to think".

If you realise your Television has different picture settings for "Dynamic", "Movie", "Natural" etc... you can find yourself obsessing over which one of these is giving you the best picture as well.

If you use the ONE settings to be sure you're on a minimum of 1080p and are connected with the HDMI lead that came with the box you should be fine.

It's not that the game isn't looking gorgeous. It's not looking how your bran thinks it should look (this is what stops most people from being able to draw exactly what they see as well).

If you know your settings are right, let yourself get used to playing on the new system and television for a few days.

It's more than likely the case that as you start to accept what you're seeing you'll start to notice the amazing visuals as well once you've got the idea of 2nd guessing everything out of your head.

Let us know how you get on.

Always turn the sharpness down to zero with HD content as it can add to pixel shimmer

^^ simply not true at all Hog. My sharpness on my hdtv is at 50 as that is what it is meant to be at, my last tv was at 15 as that is what it was meant to be at. Sharpness needs to be calibrated just the same as Colour, brightness, contrast etc...

^ Fair enough mate - i'll confess i'm no techie on the matter, i've always preferred the sharpness at 0 for my liking but i've never really done a proper calibration

It is best to have no artificial sharpening (for most people) but not all TV's use 0 as zero, if that makes sense? On my new sony bravia zero is probably at 50 as to why it looks best after calibration at 50. Any higher and it would add artificial effect
to the picture any lower and it will start to blur (some people like that effect).
