    Video Games: The Movie

Is a documentary on Netflix. I had to get the US version of Neflix on my PS3 to find it. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It goes from the beginning of gaming up until now. It brought back many memories. I really miss the arcades.

If you want to kill an hour and 45 minutes, give it watch.

For those who've seen it, what do you think? It was also interesting to see how they came up with the name "Xbox" as I did not know that before.

    :)

Why no movie trailer for Silent Hill Revelation in Xbox Video movie trailers?

Why do you think the movie trailer for Silent Hill Revelation never showed up among the Xbox Video movie trailers? Xbox Video always has every trailer for all the new and upcoming releases, so I can't imagine why this one movie never appeared on there. Plus,
it's kinda strange that a video game based movie would be the one recent movie that doesn't show up on a video game console. Why do you suppose that is?

What game would you like to see made into a movie?

None... Video game movies generally suck. Besides, today's "games" are (sadly) already more like movies than games anyway.

I thought it was pants. You'd think video, memory, and processing technology leapt by magic with each console generation. lol About half an hour in it's like somebody realised they hadn't mentioned the PC pioneers behind some of the greatest leaps in video
    game history/engines...

... so people like John Carmack were consigned to a two-minute after tought montage in the middle of the documentary. Got 2 Stars from me for that sin. {XD

Yeah, it was definitely catered towards console gamers. It would have been nice if they went through the highs and lows of each gen. I'd rate it a 4 out of 5.

It was just crazy to me that they covered the crash of the eighties but didn't mention the rise of the bedroom coders or personal computers. Developers were literally homegrown from that. Self-taught and tearing their way into creating a new industry.

Then the documentary started showcasing all of last gens great games, but having failed to mention that the majority came from a PC pedigree of development, coding, trial, error, community... in engines, Unreal (probably the most significant engine of last
gen), CryENGINE, id Tech, Gamebryo... et al... they fundamentally failed to teach the viewer anything about the evolution of the thing the documentary is about.

They also didn't cover how video games have impressed upon the film industry in terms of CGI, physics, just general computer generated special effects, and how the reverse is true too. It was just a fancy timeline showing consoles, zipping back and forth,
with nothing about the technology that led to one jumping to the other. Like the massive forces in nVidia, AMD, Intel... and so on. All of which power modern consoles. lol

Then they ended the thing talking about the future, and showing off the Oculus Rift and things... the CTO of that being John Carmack, who was instrumental in ridding the thing of latency issues, and who was given just a passing photo in a musical montage
for the PC gang, earlier in the documentary.

Heh ha. Eeee. I dunno. They had over an hour to teach a lay audience something, and they just kinda aimed for the middle of their target audience, but hit a disinterested bunch of bystanders who'll maybe have grudgingly started watching the thing on Netflix,
and half of those went, "Aww, this isn't that thing... what was that thing called? Wreck It Ralph... oh nevermind."
