Video Games running in 1080p are zoomed in on a 4K display

    Hello,

I just loaded up my PC, and I don't think this was an issue before, but I can't play any games running at 1080p on a 4K display. They sometimes appear as a small box at the top left of the screen, or they are zoomed in and cropped. Fallout 4, for example, opens as a small image at the top left, but if I click, it goes to full screen and zoomed in a bit, with parts of the HUD cut off. They look fine when I run the games at 4K

I turned on my PC a while ago, and I don't think I remember this issue with 1080p games. It is all of them

I tried changing windows to 1080p in the display settings, etc., but it didn't have any effect

    Thanks

    :)

Hi JordanPrice my name is Rodrigo. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

I am sorry to hear that.

    Please try doing these steps:

Go to your Settings > System > Screen > Set the Scale to 100%.

Let me know if it works!

Gamestop says Xbox One S will not work on a regular HDTV

I don't know what they are aware off but it is false the Xbox one S can run 4k or 1080p same goes with HDR it is optional to change the resolution go to settings - display & sound - video output - TV resolution - 4k - 1080p

Why does my x box series s look terrible in game?

The Series S is the weaker console of the next-gen Xbox consoles. While you can set it to 4K, this won't apply to games. The console will merely run these games between 1440 or 1080P and then upscale them. It's not a 4K console.

In short, video from YouTube and Netflix will be in 4K, games won't.

As the game rendering resolutions are lower, they won't look great when blown up to a 4K display, and the larger the 4K display, the worse the games will look. A Series S looks quite decent and sharp on 27" 1080P display, but quite pixelated and soft on a large 55" TV.

Many Xbox One games are sub 1080P, and these will look even worse on a large screen TV.

    4K content

The Xbox One will only output at 1080p

The Xbox One S features 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, 4K video streaming and High Dynamic Range (HDR) for games and video. In addition to supporting 4K video content when used in conjunction with a 4K TV, Xbox One S will also upscale non-4K content
to display at 4K when paired with a 4K TV. When you set your console resolution to 4K UHD, everything on the console — Home, games, and apps—will display at 4K. 4K content is displayed in its native 4K resolution, and other content (like 1080p content) is
    upscaled to 4K.

The Xbox One X - 4K content is displayed in its native 4K resolution, and other content (like games encoded for 1080p) is upscaled to 4K

    RED DEAD REDEMPTION II

The Xbox One fat goes to 720p the S version at 900p and the x goes to 4k native video quality changes, but it mostly depends on the developers
    That's incorrect.

RDR 2 runs at 864P internally on both original Xbox One and One S. Original Xbox One can upscale this image to 1080P, while the One S can upscale to 4K.

Only the One X runs the game natively in full 4K, with a dynamic scaler in action.

It's important to stress that there is a big difference between upscaling, and running a game natively.

I would say running this game on an original console or One S on a 1080P display won't be too bad, but would look quite soft - or washed out on 4K display, unless you're playing on the One X.
