VGA Out on First Start

Hi guys, going to buy my XB1 in the next week. But I'm not going to be able to buy an HDTV until next month. I have a VGA monitor of 1440x900 resolution lying around that I want to output to using an HDMI to VGA adapter.

My questions:

1) HDMI outputs to 1080p, how or will the adapter be able to convert it to 1440x900?

2) If so, is it a bad idea for the First start to be on an adapter not in native resolution? Most display devices with an OS I know do a display config in first start. Will that be an issue?

3) No audio through adapter, yes, but if I plug in my 3.5mm headset in the controller, I will get audio right?

If the 2 inputs on your monitor are DVI (White) and VGA (Blue), Then if your PC has a DVI output, use that input on the monitor and use the VGA cable for the Xbox 360 on the monitor's VGA input.

With sound, you didn't really specify how you're set up for sound with your computer, but if its PC speakers with 3.5mm jacks, it'll need an extra adapter for the VGA cable. But get back to me on that first and then we'll see.

 

Hooking up a Xbox (the new one) to a 1920x1080 monitor

if you go the VGA route, there's a few things to keep in mind.



The original grey VGA cable is no longer made/sold, from what I can tell. The original cable had an optical out in the housing. The new black one does not.



No-name VGA cables ghost. Badly. As in I threw them out because they were unusable.



Intec makes a VGA cable that has an optical out. i don't know what the ghosting is like, but the cable goes for about $12 on Amazon. If I was buying a VGA cable for an original model 360, that's the one I'd try.

There are many issues that could result by using a VGA connection. The first thing is the native resolution not being supported. You can however make the Xbox One output a 640x480 signal but this is not recommended at all.

Even if you do get the picture to work another issue that could emerge is HDCP(High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) not being detected making you unable to access certain features on the Xbox One.

It's completely at your own risk if you want to use the setup that you currently have, it might work but at the same time it might not

 

My monitor does support 720p input and from the post you've linked, the Xbox can output to 720p. How do I get it to output 720p on first start on an adaptor? If it starts off at 1080p my monitor won't display anything. And I'm supposing the 720p input will
not cause any HDCP problems.

 

I'm not sure about the DHCP but I believe the system automatically detects whether to use 720 or 1080, I'm not entirely sure about this though

 

I could really use some authority on the subject.

VGA adapters aren't supported and can cause some trouble with outputting video with some apps and games. Unfortunately we aren't able to speculate on what your experience will be like as adapters can vary. The Xbox One should be able to automatically detect
your resolution but it may not be ideal for your current setup.

 

Hey Mister Maka and everyone.

My XB1 got delivered yesterday. I did the first startup on a friend's HDTV. Then I hooked it up to the VGA adapter and guess what, everything works fine. I'm getting audio via the controller! So it's all good fellas! I hope this helps someone else in need.

Actually I would like some advice. The NXOE is quite confusing to me. I'm downloading Gears of War UE at 200 kB/s (I live in India) and I'm keeping my Xbox powered on for the download. Does it download at full speed when powered off in instant-on mode and
keep storage running when power off checked?
