Very Very Dissapointed

I must say that I am so very disappointed with Microsoft, I have spent 2 days either on the phone or on live chat trying to sort out my sons account without any kind of resolution.

My son lost his Xbox in a fire and has been without one for over a year. 2 days ago he purchased a brand new one and wanted to add his old account to it because he had spend a massive amount of money on games etc. The problem is my son did not know his email
address and the contact number on his account is an old number that he no longer has.

This created a massive problem to Microsoft and even though I could provide his full name, his gamer tag, his date of birth, his address and the debit card number that Microsoft took money from for games and his live subscription it seems that is not enough,
all they wanted to do is know the email address or they wanted to send a text to a number he no longer has.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but if someone got abusive via messages on an Xbox then Microsoft could ban that account for a set period and email that person to inform them of that so at some level within Microsoft someone knows his email address.

So now I`m told that there is nothing that can be done and all of that money spent is wasted however Microsoft support tell he that its not wasted, they are on my sons account however we cannot have them because we do not know the email address.

Now don`t anyone say that he should have not forgotten his email address because I`ve told him that god knows how many times, but don`t tell me that at some level in Microsoft this cannot be resolved because that's just ridiculous.

Sorry about the issue that you're having. Technically, the reason why support cannot view the account details is because they have a verification process. And that's sending a verification code to the email, alt email and phone that have been assigned to
the account. For security purposes, they can't view which email or phone those are sent. Accounts are customer's liability so Microsoft believe that every customer should have access to the security info they've used for their own accounts.

SingCongButas I fully understand that the support teams hands are tied, all I`m saying is that someone at Microsoft could quite easily give us access back to our account, I can gain access to my bank for less security LOL

 

Sorry to hear it. If you call them back and tell them you have forgotten the email address they should be able to ask you a few account specific questions to verify ownership. If that doesn't work then ask to have the issue escalated.

When you do get the account back be sure to add an alternate email address and/or cell number for future verification issues. I would recommend yours if possible. That way if anything happens in the future you're covered.

as mentioned above contact xbox support saying you have forgotten the email. I believe they would give out the email so then you can do the recovery process.

this is why you should keep note of the password as well as the email. alternative email or phone number is good in these situations as well.

 

I have spoken to them already. I gave them the Gamertag, His full name, his DOB, his address and even the bank card used for over £1000 of games and his primary card for his live subscription.

Their response was that they cannot do anything without the email address, they could however send a code to his mobile number, the mobile that's a year out of date.

Ive tried everything, they tell me the account is lost without remembering the email address.

 

You need a bit more detail than that

FYI somethings can be wrong and no they cannot tell you what's wrong and what's right due to the privacy and personal information laws

You will have to continue to work with them

 

Things like original console serial number

Original creation date

Etc

Ms hands are tied. If you fail the personal information requirements they cannot hand any information on the account

Without being rude mate how is anyone able to give MS the console serial number used when making the account unless your on that console.

Secondly looking at that link you sent that pretty much covers all the info I have given them minus the email address.

Why can`t they take you through an identification process for such situations, lets face it when you create an account they want to know everything ??

 

Usually you register a console when you buy it unless you created it on the web then your out of luck

No there is pii conditions that you must meet

And only the creator would know it and that's why they don't tell you what you got wrong

Conditions like payment options on file

Achievements and dates

Original name on the account

Everything has to be exact and extras information actually kinda make up for the mistakes

And yes I have helped people recover accounts

They don't allow or let you know which one you got wrong to block attempts at phishing accounts that's how accounts get.stolen
